The Technical University of Denmark invites applications for a PhD project in the area of Data Center Networks (DCN). The project is placed within the Communication Technology Section at DTU Fotonik and will be a part of the EU project COSIGN (http://www.fp7-cosign.eu). Project description The goal of this PhD project is to study novel topologies and technologies for implementing large scale and high performing networks used to realize the demands of future data centers. Network based storage and computational services are making strong performance demands to the development of future datacenters - not only in size and capacity but also with respect to for example latency and reliability. Disruptive new approaches are essential to match the expected growth in handling and processing network-based data in the future - this will be the key focus of the PhD study. The main topics the research will tackle within the project are: •All-optical network solutions. •Latency control and verification •Inter- and intra-datacenter communication. •System reliability and resiliency •Novel physical layer technologies, experimental implementation and verification Qualifications The candidate must have a master's degree in engineering or a similar degree with an academic level equivalent to the master's degree in engineering. A solid background in optical communications, networks, FPGA design and/or embedded software is desired. Good communication skills in written and spoken English are a must. Approval and Enrolment The scholarship for the PhD degree is subject to academic approval, only candidates with an above the average marks are accepted in the program. We recommend the applicants to contact the supervisors in advance to assess the suitability of the application. Candidates will be enrolled in one of the general degree programs of DTU.
