Then join Novo Nordisk Global Research (NNGR) as a PostDoc in the Novo Nordisk STAR Programme! About the department GR is a research center providing drug candidates for changing diabetes and is an integrated research unit of Novo Nordisk. The candidate will be employed by Novo Nordisk in the Unit of Insulin Biology, within NNGR with primary focus on the biological actions of insulin at a molecular and cellular level. Most of the PostDoc work will take place in the lab of Dr. Christian Rask-Madsen at Joslin Diabetes Center, Harvard University, Boston, US, and a minor part will take place at Novo Nordisk, Måløv, Denmark. The candidate must therefore expect to be expatriated for a major part of the period. The job The project will focus on effects of insulin in the vascular endothelium in collaboration with Dr. Rask-Madsen at Section for Vascular Cell Biology at Joslin Diabetes Center, Harvard University. The overall goals of the project are to identify plasma biomarkers for the vascular effects of insulin and increase our biological knowledge on how insulin acts on the vascular endothelium. A key tool will be the use of mouse models with insulin receptor gain- or loss-of-function in the vascular endothelium generated at Joslin Diabetes Center. The work environment at Joslin Diabetes Center is international and fast-paced with expectations of a high work ethic. Qualifications You hold a PhD in molecular biology, biochemistry or related disciplines. Experience with mammalian cell culture, cloning (generation of plasmid and viral vectors), and proteomics is desirable. Solid knowledge of cardiovascular function, pathogenesis of cardiovascular disease in diabetes and especially insulin effects on blood vessels is an advantage but not essential. We require very good communication skills in English.The starting date is 1 April 2015 or later, and the duration of the position is 2 years. The position is offered as part of the Novo Nordisk R&D STAR Programme (Science, Talent, Attraction and Recruitment). This programme supports the brightest PhD graduates in biotechnology, life, medical and engineering sciences, who wants to pursue a career in pharmaceutical R&D. The candidate will become part of a laboratory located in a world-leading center of excellence within diabetes and cardiovascular disease research at Harvard University and thus be exposed to world class science and in addition serve as a liaison between Division of Vascular Cell Biology at Joslin Diabetes Center and Unit of Insulin Biology at Novo Nordisk.
