Professor within Molecular Evolution and Systems Biology Education

DTU Systems Biology at the Technical University of Denmark invites applications for a position as professor within Molecular Evolution and Systems Biology Education. The position will be placed in our Genomic Diversity section with about 30 staff members. The section conducts research within functional human variation, metagenomics, molecular evolution and network engineering of eukaryotic cell factories. The section also teaches and administers the Bachelor and Master programmes in Bioinformatics and Systems Biology. The section has extended collaboration with industry and a large number of clinical partners. Responsibilities and tasks The successful candidate is expected to lead the further development of our engineering education within the area of bioinformatics and systems biology with focus on internet transmitted teaching and teaching supported by new types of media. It is also expected to contribute to research and innovation within at least one of the areas of our genomic diversity section mentioned above. Activities are expected to link to other relevant engineering areas that are related to or supporting the research within bioinformatics and systems biology. The specific emphasis of the position will be on novel, innovative educational activities. The new professor in the Genomic Diversity section will be expected to enter into collaborative projects with other groups at the department and at DTU. The aim of this will be to complement existing competences and thereby create synergies with the state of the art methodologies within phylogenetic analysis and probabilistic modeling contributed by the professor. The ultimate goal will be to further existing research agendas as well as create entirely new ones and to obtain high profile publications, and it is expected that the competences thus gained will be useful in several ongoing and entirely new projects. In addition to collaboration with groups at the Department of Systems Biology, it will be particularly relevant to collaborate with groups from DTU Vet and DTU Food. The successful candidate is expected to take a lead position in teaching at the bachelor-, master- and PhD levels. Qualifications Candidates should already have obtained well-documented international recognition within their research field. Employment entails original research at high international level within the above mentioned research theme. The successful candidate should be able to document substantial experience with teaching at all university levels. And he/she should have previous experience with molecular evolution and education within bioinformatics and systems biology including a solid insight in pedagogical aspects. Assessment In the assessment of the candidates consideration will be given to •the ability to teach •scientific production at international level, research potential and ability to lead and develop a research team •the ability to promote and utilize research results •experience with innovation activities •an all-round experience basis, including international experience •the ability to contribute to development of the department’s internal and external cooperation visions within the research area For the specific position consideration will also be given to: •experience with design and implementation of engineering educational programs with emphasis on bioinformatics and systems biology •experience in collaboration with the hospital sector and the health science community Salary and appointment terms The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Confederation of Professional Associations.
