- Research Scientist - Denmark - Gentofte If you are an ambitious researcher interested in medical applications of metabolomics, you could be our new colleague in the Systems Medicine Department at Steno Diabetes Center. We currently have a full time postdoctoral position open starting September 2015. About the department Biomedical research at Steno Diabetes Center is organised into four departments, which all apply findings from research in the clinic in order to improve outcomes for patients with type 1 and type 2 diabetes. In Systems Medicine we aim to achieve a system-level understanding of metabolism and to translate this knowledge into novel solutions to benefit human health. We are particularly interested in the identification of disease vulnerabilities associated with different metabolic phenotypes and the underlying mechanisms linking these vulnerabilities with the development of specific disorders or their co-morbidities, with specific focus on obesity and diabetes and their co-morbidities. The job You will be mainly working in developments of analytical protocols for metabolomics, which will be applied in the clinical setting, including in the Steno clinic which treats around 5600 patients with diabetes. Your main research area will be investigation of metabolome in the development of diabetes and its co-morbidities. You will be involved in the new Horizon 2020 EU project ‘Elucidating Pathways of Steatohepatitis (EPoS)’, where Steno Diabetes Center leads the work package on ‘Integrative Systems Biology & Data Management’ as well as contribute with metabolomics/lipidomic analyses. Qualifications You are a trained analytical chemist with PhD in chemistry, analytical chemistry, analytical biochemistry or in related field of science. You have experience in sample preparation, method development, validation and analysis of biological samples. Particularly, you have hands-on experience on LC-MS techniques with experience of both targeted and non-targeted analyses. Experience with GC-MS techniques is a plus. You have also practical knowledge of lipidomics/metabolomics as well as experience in advanced MS techniques using high resolution MS. Good communication skills in English are required. On a personal level, you are flexible, collaborative, and you thrive in a dynamic research environment. You enjoy working independently and are good at troubleshooting. You will be joining a newly established department, and we expect you to contribute to its further growth as a positive and dedicated colleague.
