Copenhagen Local/International Reservoir/Petroleum Engineering Ref.: MO-049573 Maersk Oil is looking for a Subsurface Manager for its Kurdistan Development Team. The position reports to the Director of New and Emerging Business. New and Emerging Business currently consists of three teams: Kurdistan, Kazakhstan and New Business, as part of Maersk Oil’s Global Production Development Department. The Kurdistan team comprise 6 to 8 team members representing the following disciplines: Reservoir Engineering, Geology, Geophysics, Petrophysics and Petroleum Technology. The team furthermore has interfaces to exploration, conceptual engineering, drilling, commercial, finance and legal disciplines as part of the project work. The successful candidate will be working with skilled colleagues on projects in a frontier area for the industry. The Kurdistan Region of Iraq is a highly prospective hydrocarbon region. Being present and active in one of the world’s most promising and prolific exploration basins is a fundamental part of Maersk Oil’s strategy to reach and sustain a production level of 400,000 bopd by 2020 and beyond. As such Maersk Oil is currently active in three license blocks in the region and support to significant business development activity continues to be part of the work scope. Technical challenges in the job includes reservoirs that are characterized by being structurally complex, extensively fractured carbonates with low matrix porosity, high fracture permeability and reservoir fluids with a high H2S content. Furthermore the job requires an appreciation of the political and commercial situation in the region and the ability to foster good collaboration and knowledge sharing within a multidisciplinary team and with the colleagues in the Exploration department. At present the main focus for the team is the development planning activities in the Sarsang license where oil has been discovered in the Swara Tika structure and more prospects are currently being drilled and evaluated in collaboration with the Exploration team and partners in the license. Exploration activities are ongoing in the Piramagrun and Qala-Dze licenses. These will naturally move to development if/when discoveries are made. Key Responsibilities The successful candidate will be responsible for setting the direction and leading an experienced multidisciplinary team of six to eight subsurface professionals. As part of the development planning process, coordination with the facilities-, operations- and drilling engineering teams as well as the Maersk Oil Assurance team is required. The position furthermore involves close collaboration with the team lead for the Exploration Kurdistan team and with the Business Development team on ad-hoc basis. Who we are looking for Subsurface professional with 10+ years of oil and gas industry experience and a proven track record of having worked with development planning projects. • Experience with leading technical teams. • Strong planning skills and track record of executing according to plan. • Solid understanding of reservoir physics from a multidisciplinary perspective. • Knowledge of appraisal techniques and Value of Information analysis. • Good interpersonal communication skills and ability to engage stakeholders in a proactive manner. • Awareness of surface engineering concepts, export specifications and impact of constraints.
