One 3-year PhD scholarship is available in the Electronics group at the DTU Electrical Engineering. DTU Electrical Engineering at Technical University of Denmark (DTU) conducts research within acoustics, antennas, biomedical engineering, electric technology, physical electronics, playware, power electronics, and robotics. An important part of this research is carried out in close cooperation with industry and international research institutions. Responsibilities and tasks The PhD project seeks to develop a unique power conversion and control concept combined with batteries to enable higher local production of photovoltaics (PV), make the user take full advantage of own electrical production and last but not least stabilize feeder lines in the low voltage grid as more and more renewable energy is injected to the grid. This project is carried out in collaboration with industrial partners EnergiMidt and Flux. Power converter design and grid-connected system control is crucial in the proposed local energy storage (LES) system. Therefore, the primary focus in this PhD project is to, based on modular design concept, develop a high efficiency and compact multiple-terminal 5~10kW power electronics converter and its associated control. Qualifications Candidates should have a MSc in engineering or a similar degree with an academic level equivalent to the MSc in engineering. It is an advantage if the candidates have several of the following qualifications: •You know photovoltaics system and preferably have knowledge about battery technology •You have experience in analysis and synthesis of power converter topologies •You have experience with digital control •You know or have experience with transformer and inductor design •You have experience using PCB layout software •You have experience in performing measurements in power electronics converters •You are good at organizing your tasks and can work independently with these •You have good analytical skills •You speak and write English at a good level Approval and Enrolment The PhD scholarships are subject to academic approval, and the candidates will be enrolled in one of the general PhD programmes of DTU.
