PhD in Integrated Energy and Macroeconomic Modelling

DTU Management, in cooperation with the Danish Energy Agency invites applicants for a PhD in macroeconomic general equilibrium modelling of energy demand and energy systems. The 3-year PhD project in the Systems Analysis Division is associated with the SAVE-E project funded by Innovation Fund Denmark. The research project running 2015-2018, will examine energy-saving solutions including the macroeconomic impacts of investments in energy savings. The PhD will work together with a second PhD student in the macroeconomic energy modelling of SAVE-E and the modelling team at the Danish Energy Agency. Responsibilities and tasks •Modelling the interaction between the macro economy and the energy system •Model and analyse general equilibrium effects of Danish energy policy. •Review methodologies for linking top-down and bottom-up models. •Incorporate linking methodology between the existing TIMES-DK and a general equilibrium model of the Danish economy. •Application of linear programming and mixed complementarity problems. •Analysis of different scenarios to illuminate the interplay between the macro economy and the energy system with a focus on behavioural assumptions and the treatment of uncertainty. The research will require competences within mathematical modelling. Specifically competences within the TIMES modelling tool and general equilibrium modelling using mixed complementary approach (preferable MPSGE). •As part of the Ph.D. project the student is expected to contribute to teaching at the M.Sc. in Sustainable Energy at DTU. •In addition, the student is expected to contribute in dissemination activities at the Danish Energy Agency The PhD project will be carried out under the supervision of Professor MSO Henrik Klinge Jacobsen and Special Advisor PhD Lars Brømsøe Termansen. Qualifications The applicant should have a MSc within Economics. Good theoretical background and applied experience within general equilibrium models are expected. Furthermore a thorough understanding of national energy system analysis and the Danish national accounts will be an advantage. Approval and Enrolment The scholarships for the PhD degree are subject to academic approval, and the candidates will be enrolled in one of the general degree programmes of DTU.
