DTU Food invites applications for a position as Professor in Translational Epidemiology of Zoonoses and Foodborne Diseases. DTU Food is a department with the overall mission of contributing to research, development and education within the following scientific areas: Biotechnology, nutrition, food quality, food safety, food technology and environment & health – all key elements to public health and food production. The professor will be affiliated with the team of epidemiologists and risk modellers in the research group for Genomic Epidemiology. The Genomic Epidemiology research group is characterized by a dynamic staff with strong international research collaborations with leading international universities and organisations, and a successful track record of national and international research applications. Research is concentrated on the evolution, spread and persistence of infectious agents, including zoonoses, antimicrobial resistant bacteria and food and waterborne transmitted pathogens. The research group refers directly to the institute Director and employs around 40 persons including presently a faculty of 2. Responsibilities and tasks Complementing the existing research group, the candidate will take responsibility for further developing the activities of quantitative epidemiology and risk modelling, with particular focus on approaches for Bayesian disease and source attribution modelling, disease mapping, disease burden assessment and quantitative microbial risk assessment (QMRA), where epidemiological relevant data from many different sources are integrated. One challenge will be to integrate such approaches with the bioinformatic results coming out of the fast developing methods for detecting and typing microbiological hazards, such as the NGS and metagenomics. The position will have a special focus on providing research-based advice to both national and international organisations such the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration, the European Food Safety Authority and the World Health Organisation. This includes among others the development of decision support tools for risk managers in the public health sector and the industry. The Professor will therefore take part in the Global Decision Support Initiative (GDSI), which is a newly established cross-institutional and interdisciplinary knowledge centre for risk, sustainability and decision support at DTU. The professor will be expected to collaborate with other research groups at DTU, particular those currently involved in the GDSI project (DTU Management, DTU Transport, DTU Civil Engineering, DTU Compute, DTU Environment and DTU Food) as well as groups internally at DTU Food. The application of e-learning including the development of massive online open courses (MOOC) at DTU is encouraged. The Professor will be expected to use e-learning as a central tool in his/her courses. The candidate is also expected to contribute to the research-based teaching. The successful candidate will be responsible for supervising PhD students and is expected to be involved in regular teaching activities related to bachelor and master level students. Qualifications The qualification requirements match those that apply to ordinary professorships within the main assignments of the position. Emphasis is placed on applicants having the potential to develop the subject area and have documented original scientific production at international level. The qualification requirements are: •A strong track record of research and publications at an international level that has contributed significantly to the international development of at least one of the following areas: Bayesian modelling, source attribution, QMRA, quantitative epidemiological modelling of zoonoses and foodborne diseases. •Significant and documented experience in public sector consultancy including consultancy at a high international level. •Documented experience in course development and teaching at different le
