The Danish Hydrocarbon Research and Technology Centre (Centre for Oil and Gas – DTU), Technical University of Denmark (DTU), invites applicants for a Postdoctoral Researcher position in petrophysics with particular reference to chalk in the Danish North Sea. About the Danish Hydrocarbon Research and Technology Centre DHRTC (also called Centre for Oil and Gas – DTU) is established by the Danish Underground Consortium and DTU. The centre has received a starting grant of DKK 1 billion for a 10-year period and relies on close interaction between Academia and industry. As part of the National Strategy on Oil and Gas, the research centre is an ambitious, targeted effort to enable increased recovery of oil and gas from the Danish North Sea. The goal will be achieved by cooperation with the industry and other research institutions to further progress knowledge and solutions with application potential, and by contributing to research-based teaching programs. A clear objective of the DHRTC is to identify and create confidence in ideas that can radically improve recovery from the Danish North Sea. It is believed that such ideas are typically cross-disciplinary in nature and that the ideas are typically created in a dialogue where insight in existing fields and technologies meets knowledge of new technologies. The Centre is now seeking Postdoctoral Researcher who has the ambition and expertise to contribute to the Centre. Responsibilities and tasks The research projects currently underway at the DHRTC include optimizing waterflooding and hydrocarbon recovery in the chalk fields of the Danish North Sea. This will involve characterizing the sedimentology and diagenetic history of the chalk in order to populate 3D static geomodels with lithofacies. There will be a strong focus on the relationships between lithofacies, petrophysical and geomechanical properties, and fracturing. The successful candidate has a strong mathematical background and experience in mathematical upscaling of numerical models of the subsurface. One of the focus areas will be the related to the effect on upscaling of fractures. These are typically found on a cm scale but the commercial models used runs at a scale of several meters. The candidate will work closely together with geophysicist and geologists and knowledge of geology and geophysics, geomechanics and fracture modelling would therefore be advantageous. Qualifications Candidates should have a Ph.D. degree or equivalent, including modelling experience upscaling of numerical models in an academic or industry environment. A record of publications or presentations would be an advantage. The candidate should have strong numeric and analytical skills. Knowledge of geology and geophysics, geomechanics and fracture modelling would also be highly advantageous, The candidate should have the ability to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team. There will be some amount of administration and project planning so project management skills will be an advantage.The common language at the center is English and fluency both verbal and written in English is expected. Rock mechanics and Rock physics experience is a plus. As the project is expected to incorporate a wide range of data, additional academic or industry experience not mentioned here may be regarded advantageous.
