Postdoc in Development of NanoBiosensor for Detection of Food Contaminants

DTU Nanotech conducts cross-disciplinary research where micro- and nanotechnology is applied to a wide range of scientific disciplines, e.g., mechanics, optics, chemistry, medical technologies and biotechnology. The BioLabChip group at DTU Nanotech invites applications for one Postdoc position to develop an advanced nanomaterial-based biosensor. Background Biological and chemical threats to our food as well as increasing regulatory demands to control the contaminants in food products have made food safety a growing issue. Conventional analytical techniques can no longer match the pace of today’s food processing and global distribution network, and fast detection methods are urgently needed for point-of-use applications. This project aims to develop a portable and robust nanobiosensor that can rapidly, sensitively and precisely screen analytes of interest for the food industry. Responsibilities and tasks The main tasks include: (1) synthesizing nanoparticle-based probes for both small molecules and macromolecules; (2) characterizing physical and chemical properties of nanomaterials; (3) implementing nanoparticle-based probes for biosensing applications; (4) collaborating with other partners for system integration and evaluation. Qualifications The successful applicant should have a strong background (PhD degree or equivalent) in polymer science, colloid and surface chemistry, organic synthesis, or related disciplines, with solid skills in nanomaterial synthesis and characterization. Experiences with nanoparticles, molecularly imprinted polymers or plastic antibodies will be considered as an advantage. The candidate should demonstrate evidence of self-driven and independent research capability, excellent collaboration and communication skills, an interest in working in an interdisciplinary research environment, and a strong motivation to succeed within a competitive research field. Assessment The assessment of the applicants will be made by an assessment committee chaired by Associate Professor Yi Sun. All applications will be reviewed to generate a short list of candidates.
