The Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Biosustainability (DTU Biosustain) is seeking a highly motivated PhD candidate in data-driven cell factory design. The DTU Biosustain conducts research on metabolic engineering and synthetic biology of microbial and mammalian cell factories for chemical and therapeutic protein production. Successful candidates will develop methods for mining and visualizing omics and screening data, and for using these data to design improved cell factories. The project will utilize large-scale data collected using the automation and analytics platforms for production strains within the iLoop Core platform at DTU Biosustain. The iLoop is based on the principle of data driven cell factory development where scientific intuition is complemented with rigorous data driven-modeling approaches in order to design and implement improved cell factories. Job description •Development of novel methods for data-driven cell factory design based on genome-scale models and omics data •Data mining of large-scale omics and screening datasets to identify improved cell factory designs •Development of software tools for analyzing and visualizing omics and screening data in the context of cellular networks •Development of software tools for data-driven strain design •Participation in cell factory development projects focusing on commercialization of novel bioprocesses Qualifications •Candidates should hold a MSc degree in systems biology, bioengineering, biotechnology, bioinformatics or similar field •The applicant should have previous experience with analyzing and interpreting omics data (genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics or other relevant data types) •Experience in machine learning and/or big data analytics are required •Good scientific software development skills are required •Experience in genome-scale models of metabolic and other cellular networks is preferred •Prior experience in cell factory development projects is preferred •Good communication skills in English are required Approval and Enrolment The scholarships for the PhD degree are subject to academic approval, and the candidates will be enrolled in one of the general degree programmes of DTU.
