Global Sales Marketing and Operations (GSMO) Finance is driving shareholder value in 60 subsidiaries and carries the local accountability for the financials as well as statutory and compliance matters across all segments and products. We:

Job’s Purpose

The GSMO Controller role in Western Europe is the right hand of the AREA CFO and the 2^nd most senior role in the Area Finance Organization.

 

Directly reporting to the Area CFO and identified as the business partner of WE HQ Area VP, the Area Controller owns and is directly accountable for the AHQ Finance business processes and overall business results. To be successful in this role, you must be able to balance the GSMO matrix (Segment, Sectors and Business Group’s), drive People Communities (Capability building), execution excellence (delivering on the operating mechanisms) & frontline business impact (partner with senior business leaders to build and implement business strategies to accelerate growth) for subsidiaries and Area.

Leadership/Management: As a Finance people manager and Leader, The Area Controller is accountable for developing and growing the HQ team performance/potential and building the People communities.

 

• Build a solid and diverse organization that attracts, retains & develops the best talent.
• Drive solid succession plans, focusing on potential of internal, external and diverse candidates.
• Build energized finance organization that can meet any changing business need, can adapt to business pressure and can evolve over time to grow with the business
• Drive clear and solid team’s priority and performance management process
• Drive solid development plans for each employee with specific programs for high performers

Building Capability & Deliver Results through Teamwork: Work through others and across teams, aligning people and resources, establishing high standards of performance and creating a climate of mutual accountability that delivers expected business results.

• Guardian of People communities for all Business segments fostering a culture of learning, sharing, excellence in execution & building a culture of growth.
• Coordinates the Performance Management cycle for the People communities through AHQ team in partnership with the Area Finance Leadership team.
• Participates and drives projects within the Area and with corporate stakeholders to enhance the role of finance.

The role promotes a culture of profitable growth by partnering in building and implementing Area strategy, sharing/adopting best practices and being the trusted advisor role for the business.

 

Strategy formulation & Impactful Business Partnership

• Impactful Business partnership on helping build key growth initiatives.
• Uses insightful business analysis to drive business impact.
• Ensures an effective communication and understanding of the financial & business performance, and drives accordingly the decision-making process (corrective plans).
• Use business & market knowledge to impact business modeling and decision making to accelerate growth.

 

Improve Profitability

• Drives profitability and productivity, using Benchmarking activities, deep dive into business drivers and KPIs, provide guidance, challenge plans, and offer solutions.
• Resource planning and redeployment within Area by driving review/analysis/benchmarks of the business execution performance on strategic activities & business metrics.

 

Business Excellence: The Area Controller is the primary owner of the Business and associated rhythm to help deliver on the results for the Area. This role drives ROB and business performance reviews and turn insights into concrete improvement actions into the AREA sales execution

 

Build Scale through Process Optimization

• Process Optimization and driving reporting standardization by utilization of Core Finance to minimize the use of local reporting.
• Provide Common Infrastructure for Reporting and Area initiatives.
• Be the voice of the field and the filter for the subsidiaries.

 

Deliver on Operating Mechanisms

• Drive tight ROB Rhythm to build predictability and accountability on Area results.
• Owns the performance management process: Variance and trend analysis for Monthly business review, Quarterly Business Reviews.
• Forward looking analysis using leading indicators of the business for forecasting.
• Drive Target setting and forecasting process for the Area.
• Budget/Month End and Quarterly Business Reviews.

 

Optimize results in partnership with other Finance functions

• Finance Execution owner with Global Procurement Group, Real Estate & Facilities (RE&F), financial compensation analysts (FCAs), One Finance & Microsoft’s Operations Centers including Credit & Collections
• Collaborate with the Control & Compliance Area lead to embed activities into the finance processes to create a culture of compliance.

 

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, Language and Abilities

• 10+ years’ experience in Finance with strong demonstration of (people) leadership, business partnering capabilities and controls & compliance culture.
• Fluent in English

• Education, qualifications, training
• Degree in Economics or Business
• CPA
• MBA preferable
• Experience or skills required
• Seasoned Finance professional
• Significant experience in Finance Management at a senior level
• Proven track record of building a professional Finance team and supported successful careers of High Talents and High Potentials
• Past Demonstration on results achievement and drive change
• Subsidiary controller role experience
