In the Innovation & Concepts department, new ideas are developed, matured and transformed into real-life projects and demonstrators to ensure that Vestas remains the industry leader in sustainable energy. You will be part of a dedicated and growing team of experts that fully lives the mission "Deliver best-in-class energy solutions for the benefit of Vestas' customers and the planet" - by initially integrating Photo Voltaic and Energy Storage Systems into our product offerings.  
This will require knowledge of how variable renewable energy sources, like wind and solar in combination with storage, are integrated, interconnected and managed.

Responsibilities

• Take a pioneering role in the internal model development activities around battery storage systems 
• Develop physics based modeling and equivalent circuit of energy storage system building blocks 
• Model development and validation in collaboration with external parties 
• Develop requirement specifications for models and model development for various levels of integration based on a top-down approach
• Electrical modelling of cell, module, and pack level systems
• Keep an eye on the advancements in battery modeling and simulation, model validation, model improvement, new chemistries, and develop roadmap for new concepts
• Ability to perform applied research around battery energy storages, and execute laboratory experiments, and implement prototypes and demonstrators.
• Whenever needed, perform Hybrids plant studies using PSCAD and PSS/E.
• Assist in the development of advanced control strategies for battery management systems

Qualifications

• BSc/MSc in Electrical or Power Engineering 
• Background in/experience with electrical engineering, power system studies, electrical modelling
• Proficiency with modeling and simulation tools like PLECS, Spice, MATLAB, Simulink or similar
• Familiar with modern simulation software modelling tools e.g. PSS/E, DigSILENT Powerfactory, PSCAD or similar 
• Good understanding of Li-ion battery fundamentals and electrochemical modeling
• Good understanding of mechanical, electrical and thermal systems
• Familiar with battery storage operation and performance including charging, discharging, safety, impedance, aging, life cycle, temperature effects, failure modes, handling and pack assembly methods, processes and procedures
• Familiar with steady state and dynamic power system studies, and grid codes
• Knowledge of or willingness to explore and implement Multiphysics simulation platforms such as COMSOL and open source software platform based on Modelica
• Familiar with electrical modelling, technical analysis and performance modelling of Energy Storage System

Additional informationYour primary work location will be at Vestas HQ in Aarhus, Denmark, and you can expect some travel activity in the position.
