About the department
As part of Novo Nordisk’s R&D organization, Chemistry, Manufacturing and Control (CMC) makes a real difference for patients with chronic diseases across the world. We develop, manufacture, and distribute drug candidates for non-clinical and clinical trials with the help from approximately 1400 CMC employees. CMC Development is organized in six areas of expertise supporting the entire drug development pipeline. The present position is situated in the CMC API Development area, which is responsible for developing, upscaling, and documenting fermentation, purification, and chemical processes for API production in order to bring the growing pipeline of new drug candidates into clinical trials.
You will join the Downstream Development department (Bagsværd), where we develop the purification processes for manufacturing new active pharmaceutical proteins and peptides for future diabetes and obesity drugs. We do so in close collaboration with the research unit as well as the pilot facilities manufacturing the proteins used for toxicological and clinical trials.
The job
As a downstream development scientist you will be responsible for planning, executing and analyzing laboratory experiments within protein and peptide purification using e.g. chromatography on Äkta/Unicorn platforms as well as unit operations such as precipitations, ultra-/diafiltrations, enzymatic cleavage etc. The analytical equipment includes UPLC, LC/MS, SDS-page and biological assays. The work is evaluated and reported in electronic laboratory notebooks.
Systematic evaluation and presentation of process data obtained from laboratory work as well as from pilot facilities is a natural part of the job as is risk assessment of the process parameters. The progress of the process development work will be discussed in the project groups, which you will be part of.
In addition, process support to our pilot facilities is an integrated part of the job.

Qualifications
You have a PhD or an MSc and a few years relevant experience from a similar scientific field. Your background is within protein and peptide chemistry preferably with some practical experience with unit operations such as chromatography, precipitation, crystallization, modifications, (UF/DF-) filtration and/or aggregation.
Furthermore, we expect that you have an innovative mindset enabling you to convert theory to practical solutions. You have excellent communication and cooperation skills and you thrive in a dynamic research environment, where daily collaboration with multiple stakeholders is essential to your success. The position requires the ability to define and perform tasks independently with a strong commitment to drive complicated development project tasks towards a common goal.
