Copenhagen Local/International Geoscience Ref.: MO-049409 Maersk Oil is offering a position as Senior Structural Geologist in the Iraqi Kurdistan (Middle East/North Africa) Exploration team, based in our headquarters in Copenhagen. The team is responsible for all exploration work in and around our interests in Iraqi Kurdistan, ranging from play analysis, lead and prospect maturation to planning and drilling of exploratory wells. Our technical work is focused on • Regional geological and geophysical studies; • Prospect maturation; • Evaluations of farm-in and acquisition initiatives; • Identification and mapping of leads and prospects for exploration drilling opportunities, including risking, volumetric assessment and economic viability; • Planning of exploration drilling. The Iraqi Kurdistan Exploration team works closely with geosciences and engineering functions internally and operational geologists and engineers in the operations office in Erbil. Maersk Oil offers a competitive remuneration and social benefits package. Key Responsibilities You will be working as exploration structural geologist at senior level. The main objective of this position is to contribute to the development of a strong exploration portfolio in the Iraqi Kurdistan region and support the company’s growth plans in this area. This geographical setting has many structural challenges and is a key component of exploration success in the region. Key responsibilities include working alongside the seismic interpreters providing independent structural validation and guidance for use in prospect evaluation and maturation, structural model generation and integration exploration well results. More specifically the role entails: • Evaluate prospectivity in licenced areas and provide structurally valid interpretations; • Generating balanced sections and test model hypothesis; • Integrating well and field data into structural models and interpretations; • Liaison with geophysicists, petrophysicists and reservoir engineers; • Ensure prospect evaluations are of high quality and seeking peer assists and reviews of work; • Conduct regional studies to identify and evaluate the exploration potential and make recommendations on growth opportunities for the company; • Participate in partner meetings; • Technical networking and mentoring of younger staff; • Screening of farm-in opportunities; • Support to Exploration Business Plans. Who we are looking for As candidate for the position we expect you have a minimum of 8 years oil industry experience with a strong background in exploration geophysics. Moreover, we expect you will bring: • M.Sc. or higher degree in structural geology or geoscience; • Experience in the structural geology of fold and thrust belts; • Significant experience in interpretation of structurally complex 2D (and 3D) seismic data; • Work experience with geology in the Middle Eastern region; • Knowledge of fractured carbonate reservoirs; • Good working knowledge of probabilistic resource assessment methods and risking; • Ability to challenge the status quo and look for alternative models to keep our technical work at a high level; • Experience of carrying out field work and integration of field data into structural models; • Enthusiasm, good communication skills and ability to engage and motivate others; • Hands-on experience with exploration software packages (e.g. Petrel, ArcGIS) and structural modelling software (e.g. 2D Move, Lithotect); • Fluency in English (spoken and written) Maersk Oil is an international oil and gas company with operated production of about
