Senior Research Scientist in Microbial Cell Factory Development

The Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Biosustainability (DTU Biosustain) is seeking a highly motivated senior research scientist for managing microbial cell factory development projects. The Center conducts research on metabolic engineering and synthetic biology of microbial and mammalian cell factories for chemical and therapeutic protein production. Successful candidates will manage the cell factory development project portfolio for the iLoop Translational Unit at DTU Biosustain. The candidate will report directly to the Director of the iLoop Unit and manage the individual project leaders and staff involved in strain construction. This position will also require working with the business development and scientific teams to develop intellectual property and publication strategies for projects. Responsibilities and tasks •Personnel management of iLoop project-specific staff including project leaders, scientists, and technicians •Recruitment and mentoring of new project staff and leaders •Technical oversight of iLoop projects including monitoring of project planning and data quality •Providing assistance and advice to project leaders as needed •Coordination of iLoop project needs with resources in iLoop technical teams including availability of relevant assays •Providing input to iLoop Director for prioritizing and scheduling project tasks •Coordinate advanced molecular biology method implementation for iLoop projects •Maintenance and development of molecular biology SOPs for the project teams •Participation in long term strategic planning including technical feasibility assessment of future projects •Participation in management and execution of platform strain development strategy Qualifications •Candidates should hold a PhD degree in bioengineering, chemical engineering, biotechnology, microbiology, molecular biology or similar field •The applicant should have extensive experience managing microbial metabolic engineering projects •The applicant should have previous experience with analyzing and interpreting high-throughput experimental data including screening and omics data •Strong background in microbiology, physiology and molecular biology is required •Strong knowledge of microbial metabolism and microbial stress response is preferred •Good communication skills in English are required Assessment In the assessment of the candidates consideration will be given to: •scientific production and research potential at international level •innovative skills and the ability to generate new ideas •the ability to communicate at all levels such as the provision of scientific advice to public sector authorities •the ability to promote and utilize research results •an all-round experience basis, preferably including international experience •the ability to contribute to development of the department’s internal and external cooperation We offer DTU offers an interesting and challenging job in an international environment focusing on education, research, public-sector consultancy and innovation which contribute to enhancing the economy and improving social welfare.
