Introduction: The Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Biosustainability (DTU Biosustain) at the Technical University of Denmark is seeking a highly motivated PhD candidate to perform model-, laboratory evolution- and omics data-guided optimization of a growth-coupled selection system in yeast. When successfully established, the system will be used to optimize commercially promising chemical production pathways in yeast using adaptive laboratory evolution. DTU Biosustain conducts research on metabolic engineering and synthetic biology of microbial and mammalian cell factories for chemical and therapeutic protein production. Successful candidates will employ state-of-the-art methods in genome editing, adaptive laboratory evolution, omics data generation and analysis, and genome-scale metabolic modeling to establish an efficient growth-coupled selection system. The project will utilize large-scale omics data to characterize and optimize the system. Responsibilities and tasks •Genome engineering of Saccharomyces cerevisiae •Adaptive laboratory evolution and population/isolate screening •Analysis of resequencing, RNA-seq and other omics data •Computation of strain designs and omics data analysis using genome-scale metabolic models Qualifications Candidates should have a master's degree in engineering or a similar degree with an academic level equivalent to the master's degree in Engineering. Approval and Enrolment The scholarships for the PhD degree are subject to academic approval, and the candidates will be enrolled in one of the general degree programmes of DTU.
