We are seeking a highly motivated scientist for the position of a Researcher to join our newly established and highly international research center - The Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Biosustainability (DTU Biosustain), Technical University of Denmark, and become part of the New Bioactive Compounds section headed by Prof. Sang Yup Lee. Responsibilities and tasks The successful candidate will work on projects in the areas of analytical chemistry, microbiology, and metabolic engineering. The analytical chemistry work will center on the isolation and characterization of natural products from microbial extracts using HPLC-MS and other separation methods. The microbiology work will center on the development and use of tools and next-generation sequencing technologies to perform metabolic engineering of actinomycete antibiotics producers. Furthermore, the candidate is expected to make use of mathematical models of metabolism as a basis for metabolic engineering of the producers. Qualifications Candidates must have •PhD in chemistry, microbiology, or a relevant field and relevant work experience •Extensive knowledge of secondary metabolite biosynthesis and actinomycete biology •Demonstrated experience with adaptive laboratory evolution to generate novel phenotypes •Demonstrated experience isolating pure natural products from complex mixtures using HPLC-MS and other separation technologies •Demonstrated experience preparing libraries (DNA and RNA) for Illumina sequencing and mapping the data to reference genomes •Demonstrated experience building and implementing mathematical models of bacterial metabolism •Demonstrated experience writing grant proposals and obtaining external funding •A track record of innovation, e.g. through the submission and issuance of patents Assessment In the assessment of the candidates consideration will be given to •scientific production and research potential at international level •innovative skills and the ability to generate new ideas •an all-round experience basis, preferably including international experience •the ability to contribute to development of the department’s internal and external cooperation We offer We offer an interesting and challenging job in an international environment focusing on education, research, public-sector consultancy and innovation, which contribute to enhancing the economy and improving social welfare.
