The department of Environmental Engineering invites applications for a position as research scientist in projects related to biogas, biofuels, and biorefinery concepts. The research scientist will work on the development and mathematical modelling for optimisation of anaerobic digestion processes. Experimental work will include testing different organic wastes available in Denmark at lab-scale. Furthermore, the research scientist will also work with optimization of anaerobic-based fermentation processes for simultaneous production of methane and biosuccinic acid. The successful applicant will join a team of approximately 25 scientific staff members working in the Bioenergy Research Group. Responsibilities and tasks The researcher will be a part of a group, which have wide interdisciplinary expertise ranging from fundamental research (microbiology, biochemistry, molecular biology) to more applied engineering approaches. The researcher will be responsible for setting up lab and pilot scale experiments as well as modelling of fermentation process, particularly anaerobic digestion process. The researcher will be involved in national as well as international projects and is expected to participate in the development of new project proposals and to some extent in teaching. The researcher should have a goal-oriented approach and ability to work in large teams. Moreover, the researcher should be able to work independently as well as collaborate with other research groups at the department. As an integrated part of the job, the researcher is expected to contribute to teaching at MSc and PhD level, as well as undertake supervision of PhD, MSc and BSc students thesis work. Qualifications Candidates should have a PhD degree or equivalent. Specific qualifications: •A PhD degree or equivalent in chemical engineering or biotechnology. •Postdoctoral experience in synthesis, design and modelling in bio (chemical) process with emphasis in anaerobic-based fermentation processes. •Experience in the operation of fermentation process and biogas reactors. •Experience in chemical characterization of biomass (terrestrial and aquatic) as well as organic wastes. •Strong knowledge in mathematical modelling of fermentation processes and reactor Engineering. •Documented experience with life cycle assessment of biofuel production.
