DTU Compute’s Section for Cognitive Systems invites applications for an appointment as postdoc in social neuroscience. The position is funded by The Villum Experiment Programme’s project abstractJV_titled “Enhancing social interaction through real-time two-brain imaging”, which aims at understanding the functional significance of inter-brain synchronization.

The position is available from January 1, 2019 or according to mutual agreement, for a period of 2 years.

The Section for Cognitive Systems is a lively and research oriented group of scientists and support staff with a shared interest in information processing in human and computer, and a particular focus on the signals they exchange, and the opportunities these signals offer for modelling and engineering of cognitive systems.

Our department DTU Compute is an internationally unique academic environment spanning the science disciplines mathematics, statistics, computer science, and cognitive science. At the same time we are an engineering department covering informatics and communication technologies (ICT) in their broadest sense. Finally, we play a major role in addressing the societal challenges of the digital society where ICT is a part of every industry, service, and human endeavour.

The postdoc will primarily be involved in working within the social neuroscience group, with the aim of understanding the behavioural and neural mechanisms underlying real-time social interaction, through development of novel joint action experimental paradigms, computational analysis tools, and real-time two-brain (dual-EEG) recordings.

Responsibilities and tasks 
The postdoc will be responsible for developing an interactive, real-time imaging framework using dual-EEG, working with novel joint action paradigms using motion tracking, and developing computational tools for quantifying two-person processes.

Qualifications
The candidate must have a Ph.D. degree in cognitive neuroscience, psychology, engineering, or equivalent academic qualifications. Candidates must document experience in conducting neuroimaging experiments, e.g. through publications. The successful candidate should possess (i) a strong background in the design and analysis of behavioural and EEG experiments, (ii) programming skills (i.e. MATLAB, Python, C/C++), (iii) excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills, which are required to work in this interdisciplinary environment, and share our dedication to solve hard problems in joint action and social neuroscience research. A background in machine learning and computational neuroscience is welcome but not required.

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed with the relevant union. The postdoc position is full-time, and available for 2 years.
