Section for Epidemiology at the National Veterinary Institute is seeking a postdoc candidate to study the epidemiology of LA-MRSA (Livestock Associated-Methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus) in the Danish pig population and to conduct an economic impact assessment. This post-doc position is part of a larger project, carried out by the National Veterinary Institute (DTU-Vet) and the Statens Serum Institut (SSI), aiming at generating knowledge that will be used to study the spread and control of LA-MRSA between and within pigs and humans. Therefore, the candidate will be working closely with a PhD student that will be employed in the section as well as with other researchers from both institutes. Responsibilities and tasks Data from prevalence studies of LA-MRSA at pig farms, supplied by additional samples will be used to study the effects of spatial proximity and trade between herds on the spread of LA-MRSA between herds. This will be used to establish evidence for the effect of vertical transmission of LA-MRSA in the Danish pig population. The data will also be used to conduct a case-control study to identify factors for herds with negative LA-MRSA status. The candidate in cooperation with the PhD student should establish an economic impact assessment model that encompass the control strategies (simulated within the PhD project) and their consequences across the Danish society, including pig producers, hospitals and community. The project will start in the 1st January 2015, or as early as it is possible, and will last for 3 years. The candidate will be part of the staff of Section for Epidemiology and will be involved in other activities such as teaching and public sector consultancy. Qualifications Candidates should have a PhD degree or equivalent. The candidate is expected to have: 1.A PhD degree or an equivalent training in veterinary epidemiology, animal health economics, animal sciences or relevant fields. 2.Documented experience in conducting and publishing statistical/epidemiological analyses. 3.Experience in conducting (health) economic assessment. 4.Experience with the statistical software R will be an advantage. 5.Good collaboration skills. 6.The ability to work organized, structured and independently. 7.Good publication activities of research results in international peer-reviewed journals.
