The Department of Electrical Engineering seeks applicants for a position as an associate professor in magnetic resonance at the new Center of Excellence (CoE) in Hyperpolarized Magnetic Resonance. The center is funded by the Danish National Research Foundation. The mission of the center is to addressi basic scientific questions of hyperpolarization by Dynamic Nuclear Polarization (DNP) with the aim of enabling new applications of Magnetic Resonance. The CoE is part of the Center for Magnetic Resonance, which conducts research in MRI and NMR. Research and teaching are conducted in collaboration with universities, hospitals and healthcare companies both nationally and internationally. Responsibilities and tasks The main areas of responsibility will be to advance research of the CoE on hyperpolarization in collaboration with center colleagues and external collaborators. More specifically, the role will involve leading research on cellular, enzymatic and chemical reactions by hyperpolarized magnetic resonance to the highest level. The hyperpolarized signal is subjected to relaxation mechanisms while undergoing chemical reactions in vivo and in vitro. These mechanisms are poorly understood, but are fundamental to the application of hyperpolarization in any area. Our research aim to understand the important mechanisms and how can we control and exploit them. To answer these questions, the successful candidate will be required to -Characterize (bio)chemical interactions in various biological systems -Develop predictive, kinetic modelling of interlinked biochemical pathways The successful candidate will take part in research-based teaching within the education of Medicine and Technology. The candidate will teach within subjects that relate to magnetic resonance, biology and the research field of the CoE. The successful candidate is expected to develop the research portfolio and funding within the above area. Idea generation, fund raising, research impact and innovation are key performance indicators for the position. The new associate professor is expected to cooperate with colleagues in other departments within DTU, e.g. DTU Chemistry’s NMR Spectroscopy group. Candidates who do not speak Danish should be willing to learn Danish within the first two years in order to be able to teach at BSc level in Danish. Dissemination to the public and exchange of knowledge with society, including participation in the public debate is important. Guidance and supervision of postdocs and PhD students is expected. Contributing to the development of a good work atmosphere and a thriving environment is essential. Qualifications Candidates must -hold a PhD degree (or equivalent) as well as academic qualifications equivalent to those obtained by holding an Assistant Professorship -document didactic/pedagogic training Furthermore, candidates must: -have extensive research experience and publication record within the field of hyperpolarization with dissolution-DNP -have a broad general knowledge of NMR and fundamental understanding of the application of NMR to biological systems -have teaching experience Assessment In the assessment of the candidates, consideration will be given to -experience within teaching and education -scientific production and research potential at an international level -the ability to promote and utilize research results -an all-round experience basis, preferably including international experience -the ability to contribute to development of the CoE by developing collaborations and raising funding.
