Assistant Professor in In-operando Characterisation of Solid State Electrochemical Cells

The section Fundamental Electrochemistry within the Department of Energy Conversion and Storage pursues research in high temperature solid state electrochemistry and its activities are dedicated to develop novel characterisation techniques and materials for high temperature electrochemical cells. These cells can play an important role in the sustainable energy system of the future, e.g. as fuel and electrolysis cells, and in electrochemical reactors. Especially at elevated temperatures interfacial reactions are usually accelerated, and more complex electro catalytic processes can take place offering novel applications of those cells. However, the fundamentals of the interfacial processes need to be better understood in order to tailor the electro catalytic properties of the electrodes towards technical relevance. The development and application of techniques that can reveal chemical and structural information during operation of the cells is an important contribution to the development of novel electro catalysts. Responsibilities and tasks The successful candidate is expected to contribute to the development of novel characterisation techniques for electrochemical cells within the Section for Fundamental Electrochemistry. Core activities include, but are not limited to: •Development of advanced in operando characterisation techniques for electrochemical interfaces at elevated temperatures •Application of these characterisation techniques to various applications within the area of electrochemical energy conversion technologies such as fuel cells & electrolysers, electro chemical reactors and filters •Contribution to project applications in the area of in operando characterisation techniques •Development of teaching in the area of characterisation techniques for electrochemical energy conversion technologies •Co-supervision of BSc, MSc and PhD students •Communication of research results •Collaboration with other research groups/departments at DTU Qualifications Candidates for an Assistant Professorship must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent). Further qualifications: PhD in chemistry, physics, materials science or similar. Experience within one or more of the following areas: •Solid state or high temperature electrochemistry •Electrochemical characterisation techniques •Materials and surface characterization techniques •In operando/in-situ analysis techniques in combination with electrochemical characterisation •Good communication skills in English, both written and spoken Assessment In the assessment of the candidates consideration will be given to •experience in teaching and education •scientific production and research potential at an international level •the ability to promote and utilize research results •an all-round experience basis, preferably including international experience •the ability to contribute to development of the department’s internal and external cooperation We offer DTU offers an interesting and challenging job in an international environment focusing on education, research, public-sector consultancy and innovation which contribute to enhancing the economy and improving social welfare. Salary and terms of employment The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed with the relevant union. The post of assistant professor is a permanent post as part of which the employee after a maximum of 4 years transfers to a position as associate professor provided that the employee is recommended for assessment and is deemed qualified.
