Team leader to inspire and motivate the late stage chemical development team

Do you have the skills and the experience to set a clear direction and inspire an experienced scientific team to produce great results? Are you eager to work with complex problem-solving related to organic chemistry in Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient (API) development? If yes, then you may be our new Team Leader within chemical modification and process development of new active pharmaceutical peptides and proteins.

As part of Novo Nordisk’s R&D family, Chemistry, Manufacturing and Control (CMC) Development makes a real difference for patients with chronic diseases across the world. We develop, manufacture and distribute drug candidates for non-clinical and clinical trials with the help from approximately 1400 CMC employees. We develop and formulate all new protein processes, coming out of our research unit and through that we ensure best-in-class treatments to the market. CMC Development is organised in six areas of expertise supporting the entire drug development pipeline.

About the department
The Chemical Development Department, is part of CMC API Development. In our department, you will find 46 highly skilled and motivated colleagues with a “can-do” attitude divided into four teams.

In the late stage chemical development team, which consists of 7 to 9 chemists, our main responsibility is to coordinate the chemical development performed at Contract Manufacturing Organisations (CMOs) for late stage drug development projects in phase 3 and to transfer these projects to our manufacturing organisation, Product Supply (PS). We do work in close collaboration with multiple stakeholders including Research, CMC Drug Product Development, Quality Assurance (QA), Regulatory Affairs (RA), pilot facilities, CMOs and PS. You should expect approx. 10-15 travel days per year.
 
The position
This position represents a great opportunity of leading a team of experienced development scientists and contribute to driving late stage CMC drug development activities (phase 3 and beyond) with the main focus of taking over and transferring projects aiming for market production.

 

As team leader, you set direction for your team by being approachable and communicating clearly and effectively both with the team and with your internal and external stakeholders. You ensure that your team lives up to project and organisational goals, while ensuring the employees well-being. You do so by aligning the team’s necessary deliveries and allocating the resources in your team accordingly. Additionally, you motivate the team to share knowledge and collaborate.

 

As this is a small team, you will actively participate in the team’s activities and provide scientific and professional expertise for our pipeline R&D projects. The team’s activities include facilitating the transfer of chemical processes from CMC to a CMO and further on to Product Supply, generating relevant technical documentation, and ensuring a high level of compliance from process justification, through process validation to market production, as well as writing the technical parts of regulatory documentations.

In this job you will have opportunities to grow personally and professionally by developing your leadership competencies while increasing your business insight. You will join the management team of Chemical Development, consisting of 4 team leaders and a Director.

Qualifications
Ideally, you completed your PhD (or equivalent) in synthetic organic chemistry and have at least 10 years of relevant experience from positions outside of academia. You have gained project management and leadership experience and you have had success motivating and developing teams to perform well. You have worked in a setting where quality management, cGMP, and pharmaceutical development have been your everyday environment. You have worked on outsourcing activities to CMOs and know how to manage your stakeholders. It is considered as an advantage if you have experience with CMC activities, process validation and regulatory demands.

We are looking for a person that is interested in working with people and has the ability to communicate and collaborate effectively across disciplines, within drug development and with external partners. Moreover you have a positive attitude and can drive independently  complex development projects according to goals and milestones.
