Software Engineer for Development of Applications for Chemical Simulations

Haldor Topsøe is an international company in strong growth. Our headquarters is located in Denmark, but the majority of our highly specialized catalysts and engineering products are sold to industrial plants all over the world. For simulation and documentation of our chemical process plant design we are using a combination of commercial and in-house developed applications. These solutions are developed and managed by our IT Applications department, and we are looking for one more experienced software engineer with a good understanding of chemical or physical simulations for our in-house simulation platform. In our department we are responsible for the development of the core platform in C++ and Java, and we have a close collaboration with our engineers and scientists that develop the specialized simulations in Fortran. In the coming years there will be a strong focus on ensuring that this platform can support the development of new chemical product areas. In addition we are continually looking into improvements of performance, flexibility, and automation of engineering design. Your primary focus will be this platform, but you can also get involved in development of other engineering systems in .NET as well as solutions based on web technologies. Alternatively, you can direct your focus more towards the low level numeric methods and simulations, depending on your background and interests. You will be part of a team of software engineers and application managers that take care of a range of IT applications in close collaboration with our engineering and research departments. You will have daily contact to other software engineers in Denmark and India, and you will ensure that we have a strong link to the simulation experts across the company. Your responsibilities • Development of server and client applications in primarily C++ and Java • Adaptation of data models and data exchange based on XML • Integration of Fortran simulations • Troubleshooting and system optimizations • Technical documentation. You • Have a strong understanding of software design • Are capable of analyzing problems and proposing solutions • Understand the needs of the users in their daily work • Are comfortable with dialogues across borders and cultures. Qualifications You have a degree in engineering, chemistry, physics or IT and experience with software development in at least C++ or Java. It is an advantage if you have experience with numeric methods and simulations in Fortran.
