You will be part of a diverse, international team of 21 colleagues with 7 different nationalities and 3 of us based in Singapore. Your colleagues are highly educated and experienced, focusing on water treatment research and innovation. Our work takes a long-term perspective, acting as entrepreneurs for our innovative solutions and products. You refer to Research Director, Wilbert van de Ven. ”We enjoy a friendly and open atmosphere with many different activities. People run their own projects but still maintain a great team spirit - because we count on each other to pick up what needs to be done and drive it to the end. We truly work in depth with our research and it is our aim to develop solutions for our customers and to help tackle the large challenges the world faces,” Wilbert explains. What is the job about? You will participate in and lead large and small projects in the field of water treatment. The projects are typically complex, multidisciplinary technology development projects, where your responsibilities are to scope and execute the project. A central part of your job is to bring new developments to the organisation - by either developing brand new solutions or products or to optimise existing ones. For example, we are aiming at doing more digital water solutions, so in a typical project you may develop algorithms, which help our products and solutions make our customers’ processes more effective and smarter. Thus, your work takes a broad scope as you become part of highly scientific development projects, where you get the time and the tools to develop completely new solutions. “Your challenge will be to help us bring new ideas, solutions and products into the organisation in an even better way. We drive our own ideas and think in an entrepreneurial way, and you will get a lot offreedom to do your work. This also calls for your ability to focus on delivery, collaborating closely with laboratory technicians and peers to get the projects moving,” Wilbert says. What do you need to apply? You hold a PhD in Chemical, Civil or Environmental Engineering and have done applied research in a corporate research environment, e.g. in a water technology or a water supply company. Alternatively, you may have a Master’s degree in Engineering combined with several years of experience within this field. You have project management experience combined with good knowledge of and practical experience with integrated water and wastewater treatment processes and you have a detailed understanding of general physical and chemical processes, process technology concepts and process control. Furthermore, you have a knack for optimisation, through algorithms, of water treatment processes and have an interest in or experience with digitalisation. Moreover, you speak and write English fluently. “On a personal level, you have an entrepreneurial mind-set. This spirit is the core for us to be able to develop new technologies. As you will be in contact with both colleagues and customers, you need to be an effective communicator and a team player. Some of your research you will do on your own, so being independent and able to motivate yourself if essential. And finally, you do not mind travelling up to 20 percent of your time to represent Grundfos abroad,” Wilbert finishes.
