Senior Research Scientist in Environmental Systems Microbiology

A senior research scientist position is available in the Urban Water Engineering Section at DTU Environmental Engineering within the topic of Environmental Systems Microbiology. Responsibilities and tasks The senior research scientist will be part of a group conducting research and innovation on a breadth of environmental biotechnological processes and microbial ecological issues across the urban water cycle. The senior researcher will be responsible for •Development and implementation of concepts and approaches to study relevant microbial processes in the urban water cycle at the system level, to include genomic, transcriptomic, and proteomic experimental approaches, as well as application and implementation of suitable bioinformatic analysis pipelines. •Quality control and assurance of methods and associated equipment to conduct state-of-the art environmental systems microbiology. •Engagement in collaborative research to develop microbial solutions within the sustainable management of waters and resources, including resource recovery and biorefinery applications. •Presentation of research and innovation results at national and international meetings and conferences and in reports for authorities, consultant companies, and others in both Danish and English. •Publication of major research results in scientific literature (ISI journals) •Initiation and contribution to competitive grant applications. •Coordination of public service, innovation and research activities with Danish authorities, consulting companies and research partners. The senior research scientist will also have responsibilities concerning: •Guidance and supervision of BSc-, MSc- and PhD-students. •Mentoring and training of laboratory technicians. •Teaching in BSc-, MSc-, PhD- and continued education courses (max 20% of time) within the area of competence. Qualifications •Candidates should have a PhD degree or equivalent as well as academic qualifications equivalent to those obtained by holding a position as Researcher or Postdoc. •Didactic/pedagogic training In addition the candidate shall have: •A proven track record in environmental systems microbiology, with an emphasis on modern experimental molecular platforms, with proven experience and strong motivation to interact with and apply suitable bioinformatic tools to interpret experimental data. •A cross-disciplinary working exposure across areas of environmental microbiology and biotechnology. •Demonstrated experience with collaboration across Danish institutes, companies and research partners. •A strong dissemination record, focusing on ISI publications •Very good command of oral and written English Assessment In the assessment of the candidates consideration will be given to: •scientific production and research potential at international level •innovative skills and the ability to generate new ideas •the ability to communicate at all levels •experience in teaching and education •the ability to promote and utilize research results •an all-round experience basis, preferably including international experience •the ability to contribute to development of the department’s internal and external cooperation For the specific position consideration will also be given to: An ability to speak and write Danish fluently or a willingness to learn Danish as additional language is advantageous.
