Research Assistant in study exploring the effect of drugs on human metagenome

We are seeking a Research Assistant to become part of the Drug resistance and community dynamics group at the Novo Nordic Foundation Center for Biosustainability (DTU Biosustain) at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU). The group is studying the organization and dynamics of microbial communities as they relate to human health and industrial biotechnology The activities range from basic research of understanding the consequences drug resistance development to the effect of antibiotics on human metagenome. The group is led by Professor Morten Sommer (http://www.savingtheworldwithscience.com/). Responsibilities and tasks The successful Research Assistant candidate will carry out and support research on the effect of drugs on human metagenome under the guidance of the coordinating researcher. Your main responsibilities in this role will be to preform: •viral, bacterial and total metagenomic DNA and RNA extraction •PCR and Real-Time PCR quality control of extracted viral nucleic acids from cultures and environmental sample •preparation of libraries for further sequencing •bacterial cultivation and phage isolation Furthermore the work area might cover determination of antibiotic susceptibility (MIC testing). Qualifications Laboratory Research Assistants who are enthusiastic, careful and methodical with post-graduate degree in Biological Sciences, Microbiology, Biotechnology or a related area. It is essential that applicants have experience in general laboratory skills and standard molecular biology techniques. Previous laboratory experiences in the area of environmental and/or gut microbiology would be advantageous. Experience in phage biology, and/or antibiotic resistance is a distinct advantage, though the essential training will be provided. Salary & Terms of employment The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed with the relevant union. The period of employment is 6 months with an option for subsequent extension for one year.
