UNEP DTU Partnership (UDP) is a leading international research and advisory institution on energy, climate and sustainable development. It is an independent organization within the Department for Management at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU). As a collaborating center of UN Environment (UNEP), UDP works with a large range of international institutions, national governments, and research institutions, to assist countries in their efforts to move towards climate resilient and sustainable development. UDP has a staff of approximately 70 professionals from 20 different countries with backgrounds covering economics, science, engineering, and energy and environment planning. UDP currently implements project activities in more than 60 developing countries.

About the Impact Assessment and Adaptation Analysis section
The newly established Impact Assessment and Adaptation Analysis section is working on evidence-based assessments of the wider economic, social, and environmental effects of climate adaptation and mitigation policies and action, as well as of the climate implications of economic, social, and environmental policies. We support the design, development, and implementation of strategies and actions that effectively address climate change adaptation and sustainable development needs, with a primary focus on developing countries. This includes: the assessment of adaptation and resilience policy processes, options, and measures; measuring and tracking progress on adaptation, mitigation, and sustainable development; and engaging with governments and non-state actors to enhance sustainable societal transformations.

In each of these areas, the section is engaged in project implementation, research, capacity building, and provision of technical support, combined with methodology development and piloting. In addition, the section provides policy advice and engages in knowledge dissemination.

Currently, we are expanding our portfolio of activities and are seeking to recruit a post-doctoral researcher in climate change adaptation to join a team of nine colleagues for an initial 2-year position. The successful candidate will primarily contribute to expanding and implementing our work in engaging with the private sector in climate adaptation and resilience in developing countries. This includes the development and piloting of methodologies, tools, and frameworks that facilitate enhanced private sector adaptation action and analysis, with a primary focus on micro, small, and medium enterprises.

Key tasks and responsibilities
The successful candidate has already obtained some experience with project management and has a strong methodological background and proven experience in adapting and applying adaptation-relevant and qualitative methods and tools in a developing country context.

The successful candidate is expected to:

• Synthesize, analyze, and document learning and evidence emerging from private sector adaptation work;
• Contribute to the implementation of projects aiming to engage small and medium size enterprises in climate adaptation in developing countries;
• Generate new ideas and stimulate innovative approaches to addressing challenges in assessing private sector adaptation in a developing country context;
• Support the development of practical guidelines and tools and dissemination of publications;
• Contribute to strengthen the section and UDP's work with qualitative research methods, processes, tools and software;
• Initiate new strategic partnerships with the private sector and key stakeholders, and contribute to the development of UDP's work in private sector adaptation;
• Contribute to country-level research and learning on effective approaches to measure adaptation impacts and climate resilience;
• Initiate, contribute to, and/or lead resource mobilization activities, including project concept development and preparation of project proposals;
• Contribute to high-impact publications, including briefs and reports
• Support and ensure the technical rigor of complex analytical and advisory services;
• Cultivate and maintain effective networks and partnerships with country partners, partner agencies, and multi-partner for a;
• Represent UNEP DTU Partnership and the section at expert meetings, regional consultations, workshops, and seminars.

Selection Criteria
We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced team player who possesses strong knowledge and expertise in the climate change and development area and who meets the following criteria:

• A PhD degree in development studies, economics, geography or other relevant field;
• Relevant experience with climate change adaptation and development research, scientific advice, and dissemination in an international context;
• Demonstrated excellent writing, communication, and presentation skills in English. Working proficiency in French and/or Spanish is a strong advantage;
• Experience with qualitative research methods and tools, incl. participatory approaches;
• Implementation of projects in co-operation with development aid donor agencies, international experts, and developing country institutions and experts;
• Experience with teamwork and an ability to produce high-quality results and outputs under pressure with minimal supervision;
• Experience in working with/for the financial sector, ideally in developing countries, is a strong advantage.

Language
The working language at UDP is English. Working proficiency in Spanish and/or French is a strong asset.

Terms of employment
UDP is part of the Department of Management at the Technical University of Denmark and employees are university staff. The successful candidate will be employed in a full-time position according to the collective agreement with the Confederation of Professional Associations. The position is initially for 2 years.

The place of work is the UN City based in Copenhagen, Denmark.
