Oticon is a large, growing company in the medical-technical industry where our +600 engineers are all committed to deliver well-made, high tech solutions for hearing impaired people worldwide. You will become part of our IC digital group, where we worked hard and dedicated to deliver the foundation for our hearing aid platform. Right now, we started looking on the next generation of IC where AI, machine learning, EEG, and superior sound quality are some of the areas we will have in focus. We therefore need another talented digital IC designer to assist our group in bringing the next generation IC’s to life.

The technical challenge: Design of ultra-low power components
In your new job, you will become part of Oticon’s processor IC team, which is responsible for designing and developing the digital components for the different ICs used in our hearing aids. The team consists of 14 designers and 1 team leader. The team also creates the tools and flows used in developing the ICs.

Overall, the team is responsible for developing the Hardware platform on which our advanced audiology is build. Hence, we are constantly engaged in looking at new ways to improve the functionality of the Hardware to improve the platform. This is possible by adding an additional HW accelerator, the development of our low power control logic and interfaces, creating small microcontrollers, optimizing a processor for AI and so on.

The components, that you are going to help us to develop, are characterized by extremely low power consumption and high integration, while also being easy to manufacture in large volumes. To achieve this, we constantly push the technology to its limits and focus on smart design. You can look forward to being involved in all phases of the development and design from pre-study to evaluation of the final IC. Thus, you will be involved in analyzing concepts, defining requirements for processors, design, documentation, verification with low level Firmware and Software plus lab testing.

As you grow more firmly into your new role, we will offer you many other professional challenges along the way. Depending on your interests, you can become part of cross-functional cross study groups focusing on investigating future concepts or you could join the team that develops and further improves our Linux / Unix platform and our digital development flow.

Solid understanding of ASIC design
We expect you to come along with a MSc. in Digital Design and overall a lot of talent and potential within digital IC design, Hardware, audio signal processing, and low power design. Either you are already an expert in one or more areas and gained some years of work experience, or you are newly graduated and have a passion to develop your skill. You are familiar with all or some of the following:

 

• HDL coding
• Audio DSP functionality like filters, sample-rate-converters, ADCs/DACs and CODECs
• AI architectures and implementation
• Interfacing with SW teams or better yet writing drivers to be handed over to the SW team
• Embedded SW and real time systems
• Knowledge of System Verilog/UVM
• Programming and scripting languages e.g. java, python, tcl
• Working in a Linux/Unix environment is an advantage

 

As a person, you have a passion for digital design and would love to create a small microcontroller including the tools for SW to code it.
