We also discover and develop new innovative biopharmaceuticals for haemophilia and growth disorders. Furthermore, we conduct stem cell and beta cell regeneration research and other early-stage investigations aimed at finding a cure for diabetes, as well as exploring novel treatments for obesity and long-term, micro-vascular complications of diabetes. The Global Research Unit consists of approximately 1500 highly qualified scientists, PhDs/PostDocs and technicians and we conduct our research from sites based in the Greater Copenhagen area, Beijing and Seattle. About the department The Insulin Metabolism Biology department is part of the Insulin Biology function that consists of three departments: Insulin Receptor Biology, Insulin Metabolism Biology and Insulin Safety & GI Biology, all specialised in vitro diabetes research with primary focus on insulin. We contribute to many different research projects and are responsible for delivering high quality data and scientific expertise to drive the research projects forward to clinical trials. We are located in modern facilities in Måløv, in the Copenhagen area as part of the global research unit. The Insulin Metabolism Biology department is responsible for in vitro biological evaluation of proteins and peptides in all stages of insulin research from generation of project ideas to scientific support of development projects. Based on a strong understanding of disease biology, we deliver high quality in vitro data and mechanism of action studies and generate ideas for new and improved treatment of diabetes with improved effects on lipid metabolism and cardiovascular disease. The department consists of five research scientists, 10 technicians and several postdocs and we work in small teams of 1 scientist and 1-2 technicians. The position The specific responsibility of the department is to be the leading experts within insulin biology with focus on diabetes metabolism (glucose and lipid metabolism and processes related to CVD), to have strong biological insight into current and new projects, and to support the projects with in vitro data. The department is expected to run state-of-the-art in vitro assays and ex-vivo models, and it is your responsibility to secure high quality data and solid delivery. Moreover, you are expected to drive innovation and generation of new project ideas in the department. You will be responsible for managing and developing the employees in the department, for ensuring a motivating working environment, high performance and high quality in the work delivered to the insulin projects. You will be part of the management team of the function, in which strategic planning, goal setting, as well as overall resource distribution and prioritization will be performed. As part of a highly dynamic and challenging environment within Global Research, it will be your job to build and maintain cross departmental and cross functional collaborations. Your internal contacts in the daily work will be department managers, scientist colleagues, technicians and project members, as well as project managers in global research. You will also be encouraged to maintain your previous network and to establish and nurture new contacts to external collaborators. Qualifications You hold a degree in Biology, Human Biology, Pharmacy, Medicine or related area and have a PhD or equivalent postgraduate scientific background. You have a strong biological understanding of diabetes, lipid metabolism and/or cardiovascular disease and a solid experience with in vitro biology. A good international network within diabetes/CVD is a plus.
