DTU Civil Engineering at the Technical University of Denmark invites applications for a position as Associate or Assistant Professor in Geotechnical Engineering and Soil Mechanics. DTU Civil Engineering is a department with the overall mission of contributing to research, development and education within the following scientific areas: construction materials, concrete properties, construction structural design, fire safety, indoor environment, geotechnics, geology and solar energy. The associate/assistant professor will be attached to the section of Geotechnics and Geology, one of the 6 sections comprising the Department employing 18 persons including presently one faculty member within Geotechnical Engineering and Soil Mechanics. Responsibilities and tasks The post of associate/assistant professor is a post through which DTU wishes to strengthen the area of soil mechanics and geotechnical engineering. The position is primarily focused on research and researched based teaching of soil mechanics and geotechnics at undergraduate and graduate level. Experimentally based research in combination with a numerical approach is the ideal. •The research effort includes a duty to publish international level peer reviewed papers, personally and in collaboration with other researchers and students. •The research-based teaching includes supervision of students and examination. Associate Professors: •Additional duties can include o Public-sector consultancy o Academic assessment work. o Research project management. o Guidance and supervision of assistant professors and researchers. Assistant Professors: •A main duty is building up the qualifications to meet the requirements for associate professor. Qualifications Candidates for an •Assistant Professorship must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent) •Associate Professorship must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent) as well as academic qualifications equivalent to those obtained by holding an Assistant Professorship and should document didactic/pedagogic training. •Documented experience in at least one of the following two fields: o Laboratory testing of geomaterials o Numerical modelling in geomechanics Since the candidate should also contribute to teaching on the initial educational levels, and because of cooperation with all relevant stakeholders of the Danish building industry, the candidate must have sufficient communication skills in Danish or a Scandinavian language, or must be able to develop this within a period of three years.
