The National Food Institute (DTU Food), a department at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU), invites applications for a position as Assistant Professor in Food Production Engineering.

The Food Production Engineering research group has a dynamic staff with high international visibility, many research collaborations with leading international universities and organisations and a successful track record of national and international research projects.

The research group aims to provide new, cutting-edge knowledge of principles of industrial food processing and the creation of novel technologies within this field. The focus is on a deeper physical and chemical mechanistic understanding of food processing. Mathematical modelling and the use of advanced methods for monitoring of food production systems and distribution systems support this.

The assistant professorship is a permanent entry-level faculty position.

Responsibilities and tasks

Candidates must develop the research further and take part in fund raising activities to develop the research field of digitalisation within the food and equipment sector.

Specific tasks include the development of mathematical models to simulate quality changes in various food products, while optimizing energy and raw material uses during processing. This must be combined with using data from sensors along the production line.

The position includes responsibilities for conducting research based teaching in existing courses in Food Technology at bachelor, master and PhD level, including student project supervision. The candidate is expected to acquire relevant didactic and pedagogical competencies in teaching food engineering at a high level.

The candidate is expected to engage in innovation activities and work closely with industrial partners.

Qualifications


Emphasis will be on the candidate's potential to develop the research area and on original scientific production at international level within digitalisation and automatization within the food sector.

The general qualification requirements are:

• Applicants must have a scientific background in food technology, food engineering or chemical engineering
• Applicants must demonstrate excellent competences on an international level in food processing modelling. Acquaintance with multivariate data analysis would be an advantage.
• Applicants should have strong interdisciplinary training that has prepared them to explore challenges related to digitalization and sustainable food processing and utilize collaboration with other departments.
• Assistant Professorship must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent)

For the specific position, consideration will also be given to:

• The candidate's ability to draft a plan for attracting external funding to support the development of the research area.
• Experience with innovation activities and industrial collaboration
• The ability to contribute to the development of internal and external cooperation within research, innovation and education

Salary and terms of employment

The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union.

An assistant professorship is a permanent entry-level faculty position. After a maximum of 4 years, an assistant professor can be promoted to an associate professor position after assessment.
