The Niels Bohr Institute, NBI, announces the availability of a 5-year fixed-term Associate Professorship in Experimental X-Ray and Neutron Scattering. The position is funded through different sources. It is expected that the candidate will be able to attract significant parts of this funding.

The candidate must have a strong background in experimental physics, particularly neutron scattering as well as experience with leadership in e-learning projects both in terms of platform development and production of learning material content. Experience with model building of condensed matter materials and determination of their nuclear and magnetic structure as well as simulation of virtual experiment data is also required.

Applicants are required to have university level teaching experience, documented teaching competencies and must be able to explain and reflect upon own teaching practice and portfolio. Formal pedagogical training or supervision equivalent to the University of Copenhagen teacher training programme for assistant professors is required.

Duties include the applicant’s own research, development of the field, assessment tasks, grant applications, and research management such as supervision and training of research fellows and other staff. The successful applicant must also teach, supervise, prepare and participate in examinations, and fulfill other tasks requested by the Department.

Specific tasks:
•Development of interdisciplinary educational collaboration regarding ESS and MAX-IV e.g. in the form of e-learning activities and courses
•Contribution to the digital strategy of SCIENCE
•Representing NBI in the online and blended network at University of Copenhagen and similar international networks
•Participation in the teaching board at NBI
•Acting as ambassador and consultant for VIPs at NBI on didactical best-practices in online and blended learning elements such virtual laboratories, feedback quizzes, gamification etc.

Assessment of applicants will primarily consider their level of documented, original scientific production at an international level, including contributions to developments in their field, as well as their documented teaching qualifications. Managerial and out-reach qualifications of applicants including ability to attract external funding will also be considered.

In the Section for X-ray and Neutron Science, the research is focused on using scattering methods for research ranging from biomolecular structures in native environment and the structure of soft matter systems to magnetism and superconductivity. The section have in-house X-ray and light scattering facilities, and are major users of international large-scale facilities. Terms of employment
The position is covered by the Memorandum on Job Structure for Academic Staff.

Terms of appointment and payment accord to the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and The Danish Confederation of Professional Associations on Academics in the State.

Commencing salary is currently for Assoc. Professor – up to DKK 469.409 including annual supplement (+ pension up to DKK 80.268)

Negotiation for salary supplement is possible.
