- Research & Development - Denmark - Måløv The Upstream Technologies department is seeking a Team Leader to head up our mammalian cell culture team. We are seeking a person with the motivation to make a difference and with a strong foundation within cell culture technologies, combined with the ability to drive performance in a highly skilled research team. The Upstream Technologies Department is a part of the Global Research Unit located in Måløv, north-west of Copenhagen. The position is available from 1st of January and applications will be evaluated continuously. The Global Research Unit specialises in the discovery of biological medicines for the treatment of type 1 and 2 diabetes. We also discover and develop new innovative biopharmaceuticals for haemophilia and growth disorders. Furthermore, we conduct stem cell and beta cell regeneration research and other early-stage investigations aimed at finding a cure for diabetes, as well as exploring novel treatments for obesity and long-term, micro-vascular complications of diabetes. About the department The department, Upstream Technologies, consists of 8 scientists and 16 technicians divided into two teams, the mammalian cell culture team, and the yeast cultivation team. The department is responsible for initial process development for new drug substance candidates and for providing proteins for pre-clinical testing. For this purpose, we use state-of-the-art technologies within protein expression and cultivation technologies, in close collaboration with the other departments in Global Research and CMC Supply. In the mammalian cell culture team we are focussed on selection and characterisation of new mammalian cell lines, medium development and early development of cell cultures, as well as initial recovery processes. The job You will lead, coach and develop about 15 highly dedicated and skilled scientists and laboratory technicians. You will have the responsibility for the performance of the team, and for ensuring the correct prioritization between the team’s diverse tasks. You will need to ensure that the team has the right resources and competences at hand, and support your team, in both personal and professional development. Stakeholder management, both internally within the research organisation and towards our close colleagues in development, is of outmost importance. Besides your role as Team Leader, you will be directly involved in some of the research projects and plan, evaluate and report experimental work in the laboratory, carried out by experienced laboratory technicians and yourself, both independently and in close collaboration with other team members. The transfer of the processes from Research to Development is also within the scope of your activities. Qualifications You hold a PhD in biotechnology, cultivation technology or cell biology and have excellent theoretical and practical skills within cell culture physiology and cultivation technologies. You should be well versed in laboratory culture techniques and have a comprehensive understanding of cultivation optimisation and scale-up of processes. You have experience with managing highly skilled scientists and technicians. Ideally you have 3-5 years of management experience in a laboratory environment, and proven strong leadership, with ability to inspire and motivate others to deliver high-quality results. You have excellent stakeholder management skills, you communicate in a clear and concise manner, both in project groups and in feedback situations. The Global Research Unit consists of app. 1.500 highly qualified Scientists, PhDs/Post docs and Lab.
