This is a grand opportunity to combine specialist knowledge and leadership talent. Gaining an immense freedom to do what you think is right; you will get to influence the development of our products, as you assume full responsibility for our Materials Laboratory. Here, you initiate actions that ensure that the department delivers as promised, and you help design, implement and assess processes and methods. You refer to Head of Global BD Laboratory, Senior Manager Lars Kvist, and you collaborate with laboratory, product and project managers throughout the organization. “As a people manager, you play a great role in leading, guiding, evaluating and developing your team of 7 specialists. You help coordinate initiatives, strategies and projects, and you align the way we do analysis, advisory, training and testing. All in all, you make sure that your team can do what is necessary,” says your new manager, Lars. What is the job about? As a global Centre of Excellence (COE), the Materials Laboratory is the global analytical facility for Grundfos. The laboratory focuses especially on corrosion, metallography, long term exposure tests, polymers and mechanical tests. Doing so, we collaborate closely with the Grundfos Development Organizations, both on new materials, new products and new production processes. We also support the production sites on quality – and other types of issues – just as we provide advisory to partners in many other areas. On a day-to-day basis, your job is to lead the laboratory to ensure the delivery of high quality analysis and advisory. You will continuously focus on developing the lab’s services to a higher level of expertise both regarding analyses and advisory. Also, you own and define the best practises, research, support, training and capabilities related to analysis of materials. Simultaneously, you will also be laboratory product manager for a range of products. Thus, you have to ensure the right application and product mindset, engage in product quality issues and ensure the needed capabilities. What do you need to apply? To manage this team of specialists you need to be a specialist yourself, so you can support your team, define best practice in analysis and testing and ultimately keep pushing the boundaries of our doing. That is why you have solid experience with testing and analyses of various materials and a background as a chemist or engineer with materials knowledge. Experience with product development as well as polymeric analysis and mechanical tests is an advantage, and you may have some project management experience – preferably from a large organization. Finally, you speak and write English effortlessly. “Yes, as a leader you need to be accountable, focus on results and able to solve problems. But perhaps most importantly, you need to know how to take good care of your team, listen to them and be there when they need you,” Lars finishes.
