The senior system engineer working on back-end systems will be involved in all aspects of issuu's infrastructure and operations. Our services are built on Amazon's scalable infrastructure (EC2, S3, etc.). You will be working on system design and implementation for our data-heavy platforms, systems and web applications, as well as internal systems to manage our services. The daily focus is on productivity and delivering results, while ensuring customer satisfaction, performance and reliability of our platform.The back-end infrastructure is developed in a range of programming languages depending on the task at hand. We mainly use Python, but also have components written in pure C and interface with systems written in OCaml, Erlang and Java.We seek an individual with a deep CS background that will bring hands-on experience and expertise in Search. We are especially interested in candidates that have experience with Solr or Elasticsearch, multilingual search, syncing search indexes with MySQL, public search APIs and boosting based on LDA’s (Latent Dirichlet Allocation). The last example is not something that Solr offers out-of-the-box and adding such functionality should be a straightforward task for the ideal candidate.Although we expect you to be our driver for Search it will not be your only work. Expect to solve problems from just about every area of computer science, including information retrieval, artificial intelligence, natural language processing, distributed computing, large-scale system design, networking, security, data compression, big data and on and on. Qualifications •Demonstrated ability to deliver results in a fast-paced environment as a self-starter and quick learner •Bachelor's or master's degree (Ph.D. preferred) in Computer Science or a related field •Strong competencies in Solr and/or Elasticsearch (configuration, operation and implementing plugins) •Experience with information retrieval, recommendations or machine learning •Experience designing and building robust, high-volume production web applications •Ability to participate in architecture design and create prototypes quickly •Strong competencies in data structures, algorithms and software design •Extensive knowledge of Unix/Linux •Excellent communication skills in English •Experience with Python and Java •Experience with relational databases •Experience with C/C++ along with other low-level languages a plus •Experience with NoSQL data stores a plus •Experience with Amazon Infrastructure services a plus •Experience with relevant Apache frameworks a plus (Spark, Zookeeper, Mahout, …) •Proven record in industry •Work residence in DK/EU Benefits •Competitive compensation package •A sleek Mac and a pretty sweet desk setup •You’ll be a part of issuu -- an amazing place with room for parents, foodies, geeks, odd birds and the occasional normal person •Expect to get better at table tennis and crosstown runs About issuu issuu connects the world’s publishers to an audience of active consumers, on a global scale.
