Making the LEGO values come to life in LEGOLAND
You will join the Merlin Affairs team, a department within the LEGO Group that is globally responsible for the relationship between The LEGO Group and The Merlin Entertainments Group (MEG). Merlin Entertainments is the number 2 theme park operator in the world; number 1 in Europe, with 120+ attractions worldwide reaching more than 60 million guests annually. Currently the MEG operates 8 LEGOLAND Parks and 20 LEGOLAND Discovery Centres (indoor experiences), and there is a high ambition to increase footprint year on year in particular for Asia and US.
Your specific tasks include:
• Drive the LEGOLAND design agenda from a LEGO Brand perspective through consulting and co-creating the design direction with Merlin Magic Making (Creative Team in Merlin Entertainment).
• Facilitate the creative sparring with senior creatives and global marketing leads across the LEGO Group and Merlin Entertainments to set the design direction for LEGO themed experiences in LEGOLAND attractions.
• Identify opportunities for elevating LEGO theming and LEGO brand relevance in new development projects within Merlin Magic Making, representing the LEGO Brand in the front-end development projects and dialogues.
• Ensure key stakeholders are informed and create buy-in to key decisions relating to LEGO brand representation across Merlin Entertainments and the LEGO Group.
• Develop and embed best practice tools and processes to strengthen collaboration across the creative teams internally and externally.
• Develop visual style and define LEGO design elements reviewing and approving creative content in new LEGOLAND development projects.
• Supervise and educate internal and external design resources to deliver on LEGO brand ambitions.
Challenges and Opportunities
As Senior Design Manager you will predominantly work with front-end development initiatives, where you will deploy your deep insights and understanding of the LEGO brand and LEGO consumer when co-creating new successful experiences that will help us inspire and develop the builders of tomorrow. You’ll be influencing and guiding stakeholders on multiple levels where your ability to collaborate is instrumental in setting and aligning the direction for how the LEGO values come to life in new LEGOLAND experiences and attractions.
You join a global team of 10 colleagues, where you get to collaborate across different functions and locations. Further you build close relations with the creative directors in Merlin Magic Making and with Senior Creative and Global Marketing Leads across the Product and Marketing Development in LEGO Group. The maternity cover is based in Billund, but will require frequent travelling to London where Merlin Magic Making is located. Some travel to existing LEGOLAND estate or new estate under construction should be expected.
Do you have what it takes?
• Extensive experience from a design-, architecture- and/ or brand development role.
• Experience in translating brand directions into clear guidelines, styleguides, theme books or creative briefs.
• Ability to understand and translate architectural specifications.
• Documented experience from working in an environment with multiple stakeholders with differing objectives requiring a collaborative mindset and strong stakeholder management skills to succeed.
• An understanding or interest in Theme Parks and by extension, the leisure industry.
• Previous experience with LEGOLAND or other LEGO branded products or experiences will be a clear advantage.
• Advanced English skills, both spoken and written.
• Experience from participating in larger scale construction projects with physical brand representation will be considered an advantage.
