DTU Food is inviting applications for a researcher position in Reproductive Toxicology. The position will involve both scientific research and advisory work related to potential consequences for human health after exposure to chemicals from foods and the environment.

The position as a researcher is a permanent entry-level position.

The successful candidate will become part of the Research Group for Molecular and Reproductive Toxicology. The group has particular focus on how exposure to chemicals during fetal life can disrupt reproductive development. Work ranges from basic research to advisory tasks for regulatory bodies. This position is largely concerned with female reproductive development and reproductive disorders brought about by early exposure to chemicals. The candidate will also be engaged a Horizon 2020 project, FREIA, which focuses on female reproductive health

Responsibilities and tasks


The position requires a self-reliant candidate that is highly flexible and organized with respect to carrying out the various working tasks. Collaborative qualities are essential as the position involves interactions with different partners and stakeholders. For this position you will:

• Conduct laboratory research experiments: in vitro and in vivo (rat) models, as well as tissue culture for reproductive toxicity of endocrine disrupting chemicals.
• Together with group members, carry out research-based advice for the Danish Environmental Protection Agency and the Danish Veterinary & Food Administration.
• Participating in research projects within the group's focus areas: male and female reproduction or thyroid hormone-dependent brain development, but with main focus on female reproduction.

Qualifications

Candidates must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent) in relevant field (e.g. Biology, Molecular Biomedicine, Veterinary Medicine, Pharmacy, Biochemistry, Toxicology or similar)

Other essentials are:

• Experience in reproductive biology and ovarian function is highly regarded.
• Experience with independent scientific research and completion of research projects.
• Experience with in vitro (including tissue culture) and in vivo work, preferable rats or mice.
• Experience with advisory work pertaining to endocrine disrupting chemicals
• Good English communications skills, verbal and written. Proficiency in Danish is also required, as much advisory communication with the authorities will be conducted in Danish.

Desirables:

• Experience with toxicological risk assessment of hazardous substances present in foods and the environment.
• Mobility, as the position will likely include an international research stay
• Experience with data handling and cataloguing, as well as proficiency with common softwares such as Word, Excel, GraphPad Prism (or other statistics tools) reference management softwares (e.g. EndNote, Mendeley, or RefMan)

Salary and terms of employment

The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union.

The position as a researcher is a permanent entry-level position. After a maximum of 4 years, a researcher can be promoted to a senior researcher position after assessment.
