- Research & Development - Denmark - Måløv The Upstream 2 team is seeking a dynamic and innovative individual to strengthen our yeast cultivation and process development activities. The position is in the Upstream Technologies department, which is part of the Global Research unit located in Måløv, North-West of Copenhagen. The Global Research unit specialises in the discovery of biological medicines for the treatment of type 1 and 2 diabetes. We also discover and develop new innovative biopharmaceuticals for haemophilia and growth disorders. Furthermore, we conduct stem cell and beta cell regeneration research and other early-stage investigations aimed at finding a cure for diabetes, as well as exploring novel treatments for obesity and long-term, micro-vascular complications of diabetes. About the department The department Upstream Technologies is part of the Recombinant Protein Technologies area, and consists of 9 scientists and 15 technicians divided into two teams, the mammalian cell culture team (Upstream 1) and the yeast cultivation team (Upstream 2). The department is responsible for the initial development of recombinant production processes for new drug substance candidates and for supplying proteins for preclinical testing. For this purpose, we use state-of-the art technologies within the fermentation field, in close collaboration with other departments in the Recombinant Protein Technologies area, and also other areas within in Global Research and Chemistry, Manufacturing and Controls (CMC) Supply. In the Upstream 2 team, we focus on the physiological characterisation of new yeast production strains, and on the initial development of cultivation and recovery processes, as well as culture media development. The position Our work is facilitated by multidisciplinary project teams. You will provide scientific expertise within yeast physiology and fermentation technology to several early stage projects. You will plan, evaluate and report experimental work in the laboratory, carried out by experienced laboratory technicians and yourself, both independently and in close collaboration with other team members. You will be part of our skilled group of scientists maintaining and developing our yeast cultivation and recovery platforms. Furthermore, you will be responsible for early cultivation and recovery process development and transfer to CMC Supply. Qualifications You hold a PhD in biotechnology, fermentation technology or cell biology and have excellent theoretical and practical skills within yeast physiology and fermentation technologies. Knowledge in state-of-the art cultivation systems/bioreactors, downscale models and initial recovery is of particular interest. You should be well versed in laboratory culture techniques and have a comprehensive understanding of optimisation and scale-up of cultivation processes. Finally, since all work takes place in multidisciplinary project groups, good interpersonal and communicative skills are essential.
