Postdoctoral Position in Stem Cell Biology in the area of Retinal Development at Novo Nordisk

A full-time postdoctoral position is now available in the Department of Stem Cell Discovery and is part of the newly established Stem Cell R&D Translational Unit at Novo Nordisk at Måløv, Copenhagen. We are now looking for a highly motivated and qualified postdoc candidate to join our research group. The position is funded for a 2 years period.

 

About the department

You will have the opportunity to join Novo Nordisk’s Research and Development organisation during a time of exciting expansion in the field of stem cell biology. For almost two decades, Novo Nordisk has been researching the directed differentiation of pluripotent stem cells into insulin producing beta cells for the treatment of type 1 diabetes. We have now expanded our commitment to stem cell-based research to other serious chronic diseases, including Parkinson’s disease, age related macular degeneration and heart failure, with the hope of continuing to offer life-changing treatments for even more patients in the future.

 

The position

We are inviting applications to mainly work on a project that involves generation of retinal progenitors from human pluripotent stem cells for retinal diseases such as age-related macular degeneration. We are adapting and developing methods for generation of retinal pigment epithelium and retinal progenitor cells from human pluripotent stem cells. Current projects focus on different agents that promote cell differentiation into the desired neuronal cell types and to determine whether these cells will integrate functionally into the host retina of animal models. The candidate will contribute to the development of new scientific research related to cell replacement therapies for retinopathies. You will work with leading stem cell researchers in the department of Stem Cell Discovery to support activities in this and other disease areas.

 

Qualification

• The candidate should have demonstrated excellent scientific productivity, evidenced by high-quality research publications, be able to conduct independent and creative research, and show good inter-personal and communication skills.
• The candidate is required to have a PhD degree or equivalent in natural or medical science.
• Good scientific track-record, including at least one publication as first author in a high-quality, peer reviewed international journal.
• Expert knowledge in developmental biology of the mammalian eye and stem cell biology is highly recommended.
• Expert knowledge in one or more of the following areas would be considered as an advantage:
  • Cell culture of human pluripotent stem cell
  • 3D culture of stem cells/ optic cups organoids
  • Analysis of large-scale transcriptomics datasets
  • Pluripotent stem cell derived retinogenesis
  • FACS sorting analyses
  • Electrophysiology studies with microelectrode devices
  • Single cell RNAseq
  • Expression analyses (Real-time PCR, NanoString technology, etc)
• Fluent in English, good communication skills, both oral and written.
• An analytical aptitude for devising innovative scientific or technical solutions.
• Demonstrate enthusiasm, motivation, flexibility and confidence.

 

As a person, you should be comfortable working and interacting with a large team and demonstrate strong interpersonal skills as well as having the drive and dedication to enthusiastically tackle challenging scientific problems.
