Postdoc in Green Nanoparticles Production and their Medical Applications

DTU Biosustain announces a vacancy in the Bacterial Signal Transduction group headed by Professor Ivan Mijakovic. The focus of our research in this domain is the production of green metallic nanoparticles by microorganisms. We seek to generate functionalized metallic nanoparticles that will be optimized for medical applications, e.g. treatment of cancer, inflammations, biofilm problems etc.

Responsibilities and tasks

The research field of the position is within the area of green nanoparticles production, characterization and their medical applications. The production will be carried out in the model organisms such as B. subtilis, E. coli or other strains enhanced via genetic engineering to produce well-defined metallic nanoparticles. Next, characterization of the so produced nanoparticles will be carried out by employing analytical instruments such as ICPMS, FTIR, AFM, DLS, SEM, TEM, UV-vis, etc. The metallic nanoparticles will be checked for environmental impacts in several in vivo models such as daphnia and algae. Finally, effectiveness of nanoparticles against cancer, inflammation and biofilm-based infections will be assessed by in vitro studies and in vivo models.

The candidate is expected to independently use various instruments such as TEM, SEM, FTIR, AFM, ICPS, DLS, UV-vis etc. Besides outlining and executing new research ideas/projects, the candidate is expected to aid in preparing grant applications and publish publications to support further research.

Qualifications

Candidates should have a PhD degree or equivalent.

The candidate is expected to have strong experience in the field of green nanoparticles production, genetic engineering approaches, and testing medical applications of nanoparticles in vivo and in vitro.

Applicants must also possess and document a strong experimental expertise as well as a substantial theoretical expertise in nanoparticles production and applications. Documentation should be in the form of publications in international scientific journals. Specifically, the candidate should master microbiology and analytical techniques relevant for nanoparticles characterization and application research. Experience with nanoparticles handling and mammalian cell line treatment is desirable. Candidates who have demonstrated scientific independence will be prioritized, i.e. successful publication track record on topic(s) other than that developed during their PhD studies. Fluency in English, excellent communication and collaborations skills, as well as independence in paper and project writing are prerequisites for this position.

Salary and terms of employment


The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union.
