Postdoc in Chromatin Replication in the Groth group at Biotech Research and Innovation Centre (BRIC)

We seek a highly motivated and independent post-doctoral researcher with the expertise in chromatin biology and DNA repair to unravel the mechanistic interplay between genome and epigenome maintenance in dividing cells.

Our research
Our research goal is to understand how chromatin is replicated to ensure faithful transmission of genetic and epigenetic information. We are focusing on mechanisms involved in replication-coupled chromatin dynamics, propagation of histone-based information and the importance of new unmarked histones in marking post-replicative chromatin for error-free DNA repair. To this end we are applying innovative proteomic and genomic approa­ches in combination with cutting-edge cell biology, advanced high-content imaging, single molecule analysis of replicating DNA, biochemistry and structural biology.

The Groth group is an interdisciplinary team of post.docs and PhD students. We value an inclusive and open environment with sharing of ideas and team work in the group as well as collaborations externally. We have implemented Creative Problem Solving as an innovative tool to develop our research and continue to develop our group towards the most stimulating and creative research environment e.g. through annual retreats.

The research project
You will join an international cross-disciplinary team with expertise in proteomics and mathematical modelling to unravel the processes that control cellular identity in proliferating cells with a particular focus on propagation of histone modifications. We have recently described how histone modifications are propagated across the cell cycle (Alabert et al., Genes Dev 29:585, 2015). You will now apply the new technologies developed in Groth lab (e.g. Reveron Gomez et al., 2018, Mol Cell) to dissect mechanisms governing chromatin replication and transmission of epigenetic information in self-renewing cells and during cell reprogramming. In addition, the candidate will also take part in exploring the role of new histones carrying H4K20me0 in routing repair and securing genome integrity in embryonic stem cells.

Profile
You are a highly motivated and ambitious scientist with the following competencies and experience:

Essential experience and skills:

• A PhD in Life Sciences
• Documented experience in cell biology, molecular and/or biochemical techniques
• Strong background in chromatin biology, DNA replication and/or genome integrity
• Experience with stem cells or cell differentiation models
• Experience with analyses of next generation sequencing data
• Proven ability to envision, plan and execute a research project
• Excellent English skills written and spoken

Desirable experience and skills:

• Experience with proteomics and data analysis

The ideal candidate will be a team player and have excellent communication skills.

Place of employment
The employment is at BRIC, University of Copenhagen. The Biotech Research and Innovation Centre (BRIC) is a research centre of excellence for biomedical research, focusing on disease-oriented basic research, at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen. BRIC hosts 25 independent research groups that perform basic and translational research aimed to understand diseases like cancer, neurological and metabolic disorders. Terms of employment
The employment as postdoc is a full time and fixed-term position for 3 years. Starting date is 1 February 2019 (or after agreement).
Salary, pension and terms of employment will be in accordance with the agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations). Currently, the monthly salary starts at 33,700 DKK/approx. 4,480 Euro (October 2018-level). Depending on qualifications, a supplement may be negotiated. The employer will pay an additional 17.1 % to your pension fund.

Non-Danish and Danish applicants may be eligible for tax reductions, if they hold a PhD degree and have not lived in Denmark the last 10 years.

The position is covered by the “Memorandum on Job Structure for Academic Staff at the Universities” of June 28, 2013.
