Postdoc in bioinformatics and microbial genomic epidemiology

Applicants for a postdoc position in microbial bioinformatics and microbial genomic epidemiology are invited. The postdoc will be affiliated to the Division of Epidemiology and Microbial Genomics, which is engaged in research and consultancy regarding medical and foodborne microorganisms including zoonotic bacteria, foodborne viruses and applied microorganisms. The position is based in the Research Group for Microbial Genomics and Antimicrobial Resistance at DTU Food. Responsibilities and tasks DTU Food collects data for global real-time surveillance of infectious and non-infections agents (bacteria, virus, parasites). DTU Food has together with DTU-Systems Biology initiated a larger initiative aiming at providing bioinformatics and molecular solutions and for global real-time analysis of whole genome and whole community sequence data (http://www.genomicepidemiology.org and http://www.g-m-i.org), funded by the Danish Research Councils, DANIDA, EU and the Villum Foundation. The successful candidate will integrate closely with other scientists with a background in molecular and conventional microbiology as well as epidemiology and statistical modelling. The candidate will develop, test and analyze different bioinformatic methodologies for quantification of resistance genes from different meta-genomic sequences. The day-to-day work will be performed in close collaboration with other post docs and PhD-students employed on the project as well as the Center for Biological Sequence Analysis (CBS) at DTU-Systems Biology. The specific focus will be on studying the phylogenies and evolution of selected pathogens, including Salmonella and Listeria, as well as other pathogens.
