DTU Wind Energy at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) is looking for a candidate for a postdoctoral position. The high reliability of wind turbine blades is especially important for large and extra large wind turbines. It can be ensured by the development of strong and highly damage resistant advanced materials. In the framework of the project “High reliability of large wind turbines via computational micromechanics based enhancement of materials performances" (supported by Danish Innovation Fond) the scientific basis and computational tools for the microstructural optimization of materials for wind blades are developed. Responsibilities and tasks The focus of the post-doctoral research will be on numerical micromechanical modelling of strength, damage and fatigue processes in fiber reinforced UD polymer composites, hybrid composites and nanocomposites. The theme of the project is the numerical analysis of the effect of microstructures of various groups of composites on their fatigue resistance and lifetime, and computational design of microstructures of new composite materials for wind energy applications. In particular, computational simulations and micromechanical modelling of hierarchical nano (graphene) reinforced composites are planned, see here and here.
