The Lundbeck Foundation GeoGenetics Centre seeks a PhD student in population genetics for its continuing project on the evolution of human pathogens using ancient DNA.
The PhD student’s duties will include research within population genomics as well as teaching. The post may also include performance of other duties.
The Ideal candidate for this position has a strong biological background founded in genetics. The candidate should have experience in the detection of admixture events, crucial to understanding the genetic patterns observed in natural populations. Furthermore, experience in using likelihood-free approaches such as approximate Bayesian computation (ABC) in order to infer relevant parameters associated with specific population genomic events as well as distinguishing between multiple demographic models would be advantageous. In addition, it would be optimal if the candidate has previous experience working with genomic data from ancient and modern humans along with experience in generating data from ancient samples.
The PhD project will investigate the possibility of obtaining admixture time and proportion using stratified D, which will be further explored through the use of additional statistics and improvements to the existing ABC framework. The approach will be applied to a number of real-world cases where we believe admixture has occurred but has not yet detected. In particular, repeated archaic admixture in modern humans is of interest.

The starting salary is currently at a minimum DKK 322,642 (approx. €43,015) including annual supplement (+ pension up to DKK 44,567). Negotiation for salary supplement is possible.
