Then you are the medical consultant or staff specialist we are looking for.

The medical speciality Emergency Medicine is now a reality, and we are therefore looking for innovative medical colleagues with an interest in the emergency field and with the desire to improve the professional standards in the Department in general and in our everyday work in particular.

 If you are a medical specialist who wants a change of course to become a specialist in emergency medicine, this is your chance. We can offer you a two-year course module in emergency medicine.

 Or maybe you already have experience from this field/course module and want to further develop your competences within the exciting world of emergency medicine? We would like to support you in this by offering you certification for emergency ultrasound, relevant courses and team training with external instructors.

Our expectations

The general functions of the on-call team in the Emergency Department:

 Establishing an overview in relation to patients who are on their way to the department and performing triage
 Receiving and performing the primary acute assessment of the patient
 Assessing whether the patient must/can be assigned a higher or lower priority
 Starting relevant examinations and initial (stabilising) treatment
 Ensuring that all necessary steps are taken to stabilise the acutely ill patient
 Ensuring that all the necessary professional groups/specialist areas are present or called as needed (referral/working diagnosis)
 Acting as emergency manager in case of an emergency situation arising or being reported
 Handling critical incidents during busy periods
 Having the difficult conversation and facilitating a debriefing (or defusing)
 Handling critical staff situations

We expect that you have adequate professional enthusiasm and experience to independently handle the acute patient treatment and experience in supervising junior doctors and medical student.

You must be motivated, open, flexible and good at working in a multidisciplinary environment both in the department, but also with the rest of the emergency hospital.

We take good care of each other in the Emergency Department and work hard every day to ensure the best possible treatment of the acute patient. We know that we are best when interdisciplinarity rules. We therefore expect that you want to contribute to the professionalism and be part of a wider community.

A department under development

The Emergency Department in Slagelse is a state-of-the-art and innovative department with committed employees who are at the forefront of the development of Joint Emergency Departments (Fælles Akutmodtagelser) in Denmark.

We are the largest emergency department in Region Zealand with more than 75,000 contacts per year. We are approx. 250 employees and have 53 emergency beds. We expand our 24-hour function for physicians on call and are looking for a medical consultant and a staff specialist with interdisciplinary and practical experience in the emergency specialities. You now have a unique chance to become part of our multi-disciplinary team, now that our on-call function has been upgraded.

The Emergency Department has its own 24/7/365 on-site on-call doctor service, and in addition to the assessment and stabilisation of the hospitalised patients, we are also responsible for our own emergency room. You will receive training in any missing emergency room competences before you go on duty and any inadequate knowledge within parts of the emergency medicine field may be strengthened individually according to agreement.

Easy commuting

With good train connections to Slagelse station and then only 7 minutes on foot, you will find yourself in the new and modern surroundings in the Emergency Department at Slagelse Hospital. There is also easy commuting by car with only a 1-hour drive from Copenhagen to Slagelse Hospital, and parking is not a problem.

Terms of employment

We want the vacancy filled as soon as possible.
Employment is subject to collective agreement terms according to agreement with the eligible negotiator.

Employment is conditional upon presentation of satisfactory child protection certificate.

Employment requires certification in the Healthcare Platform. However, if you do not have this, we will arrange for you to have it.

Emergency Department at Slagelse Hospital

Region Zealand’s largest emergency department. 75,000 contacts annually. 28,000 patients are brought in via 112 and the rest are referred by their family doctor/GP for emergency admission. We have an average of 4.5 critical calls per day (patient is seen immediately) and trauma calls.

The department has approx. 250 employees and 53 emergency beds/reception cubicles in addition to responsibility for its own Emergency Department at two different addresses.

Examination and treatment take place in ultra modern and innovative surroundings from 2013, equipped with everything the physicians may need in the acute phase. Our ambition to become the absolute best emergency department will be realised now that the Emergency Department is expanded by the appointment of four new specialists as the hospital management has increased the staffing of the on-call function in order to meet the ambitious plan.

The Department is well organised, and tasks are carried out in teams.

Research in focus

We are deeply involved in national networking and cross-regional project participation. In this context, we are part of Region Zealand’s development partnership with Beth Israel Emergency Department in Boston under the Harvard Medical Faculty.

The Department has its own research unit with increasing activity and good opportunities for obtaining support for the initiation of research projects.

The Department also has a clinical associate professor assigned to it, who is responsible for the clinical training of medical students from the University of Copenhagen.
