Assistant Professor in Quantitative Methods for Analysis of Biological Data

The National Veterinary Institute (DTU Vet) invites applicants for a position as assistant professor at The Section of Bacteriology, Parasitology and Pathology. The focus of the position is to initiate teaching in quantitative modelling of biological data and perform research and support in large data sets such as from next-generation sequencing. Responsibilities and tasks The assistant professor will take responsibility for the development of a new course in quantitative biology to be offered for bachelor students by September 2016. The development of the course will be supervised by the Study Head of the new education in Disease Modelling and is expected to involve other Sections at DTU Vet and other departments at DTU. The assistant professor will be involved in research projects that include sequencing of bacterial isolates and/or metagenomic analysis on sequences obtained from complex microbiological societies of animal origin, such as intestinal or skin samples or samples from pathological material. Teaching tasks include: •Development of a new course in Quantitative Biology (10 ECTS) starting September 2016 •Teaching the new course in Quantitative Biology (10 ECTS) starting September 2016 •Contribute to the overall development and description of the new education in Disease Modelling at DTU Research tasks include: •Analysis of large data sets obtained from next-generation sequencing •Development of the department’s bioinformatics research •Publication in peer-reviewed journals There will be collaboration with other DTU departments, which are DTU Compute and DTU Systems Biology. Qualifications Mandatory requirements: •PhD degree applying quantitative analyses of biological data •Expertise in next generation sequencing •Familiar with bioinformatics software for analysis of sequences •Expertise in programming mathematical models •High quality publication record •International experience •Strong work ethic and motivation to succeed within a competitive research field Desired requirements: •Experience in NGS analysis of MHC expression •Experience in analysis of microbiological communities •Experience in teaching and supervision of students Assessment In the assessment of the candidates consideration will be given to •experience in teaching •scientific production and research potential at an international level •the ability to promote and utilize research results •an all-round experience basis, preferably including international experience •the ability to contribute to development of the department’s internal and external cooperation We offer An interesting and challenging job in an international environment focusing on research, education, public-sector consultancy and innovation, which contribute to enhancing animal and human health.
