The Niels Bohr Institute invites applications for an Associate Professorship in Extragalactic Astrophysics. The Associate Professor will join the institute’s newly founded Cosmic Dawn Centre of Excellence (DAWN). The center is dedicated to understanding how and when the first galaxies formed.
The associate professor will play a central role in further developing astrophysics at the NBI, and in DAWN’s core research program in the area of discovering and characterizing the earliest galaxies in the Universe.
The ideal candidate will have an outstanding research profile in observational extragalactic astrophysics, will have done seminal work in the field, and who will as well have substantial international working experience and collaboration.
We seek a candidate who also has an enthusiastic attitude towards teaching and outreach, who can help develop the future curriculum in astrophysics at the institute, and who enjoys mentoring and supervising our talented students at all levels. A statement about teaching philosophy (teaching portfolio) must be included in the application, as well as documented teaching and mentoring experience.
Duties include the applicant’s own research, development of the field, assessment tasks, grant applications, and research management such as supervision and training of research fellows and other staff. The successful applicant must also teach, supervise, prepare and participate in examinations, and fulfill other tasks requested by the Department.
Assessment of applicants will primarily consider their level of documented, original scientific production at an international level, including contributions to developments in their field, as well as their documented teaching qualifications. Managerial and out-reach qualifications of applicants including ability to attract external funding will also be considered.
