We have an open position for a senior scientist with a strong background and broad knowledge within state of the art expression and purification of recombinant proteins. About the Department The area of Protein Chemistry consists of 23 scientists and 27 technicians divided into three units. Protein Chemistry is part of the Diabetes Protein Engineering function area in Diabetes Research Unit (DRU) and is involved in the early phase of discovery of human therapeutic proteins for treatment of diabetes and obesity. Our employees are primarily working within our main area of expertise, which are protein purification, analysis and characterization. The Protein Test Machine is a Department currently consisting of 15 dedicated employees, and constitutes an important basis for supporting the early R&D pipeline for Novo Nordisk. The goal is to facilitate fast delivery of a high number of purified proteins for the initial analysis of the biological and therapeutic potential. Delivery of proteins will be based on a high-throughput technological platform, which is a central focal point of the Department. State of the art technologies within recombinant protein expression, purification and characterization are applied to enable fast delivery of the proteins. The Department has an extensive network with the entire R&D organisation and collaborate with research projects and groups within both Novo Nordisk DK and Novo Nordisk Beijing. The Job You will primarily work with expression and purification of human recombinant proteins. You will be a driving force in exploring new methods for utilizing and scaling up especially mammalian cell expression systems, establish methods for fast expression yield optimization and ensure translation of these efforts into scale up of protein purification. You will use your general expertize in biotechnology to support technology development and innovation. Qualifications You have excellent theoretical and practical skills within protein expression in higher eukaryotes and in protein purification. Knowledge within state of the art mammalian cell expression systems and their scalability is of particular focus. You should be well versed in laboratory cell culture techniques and have a comprehensive understanding of cell culture optimization and how to use bioreactors or similar technologies for scaling up expression batches. You have a thorough understanding of protein chemistry and experience in using FPLC based methods (ÄKTA) for scaling up protein purification. The candidate holds a PhD or similar in biotechnology, protein chemistry or cell biology. Optimization of protein production workflows through innovative approaches is a central part of the job description and the candidate must have a creative mind set and ability to adapt to changing needs of a fast-paced research environment. You will interact closely with a dynamic team of molecular biologists, protein chemists and technicians. Highly developed interpersonal skills are therefore needed for a successful integration of the candidate into the Department.
